I have a cold air intake on a 96 honda civic EX and went through some heavy water and the car started running real shitty but it ran better after the rain cleared of the road but the oil had white spots in it and the car still runs but not as good i think there is water in my engine any suggestions would be appreciated

if water got sucked up, and it is alright now, then i think you would be alright. Consider yourself lucky. Did you go through a deep puddle?

 

change your oil asap

put new plugs while you at it

sounds like your a lucky devil.. check your oil to be safe

 

i shortened my intake but how the hell do you have a cold air intake like that and prevent water gettin in? im gonna change my plugs and oil then i guess
im missing the wheel well lining of plastic i think that might have prevented some of the water i was down in OC MD this weekend and it was raining like a mother f***

 

BYPASS valve, its designed to not allow water in. Its well worth the 50 bucks new.

Doesnt work unless the filter is completely submerged.

Yes and no (I saw a demonstration video where it wasn't completely submerged and the bypass opened - though it was very close), but you have to admit that - no matter what - having one is better than not having one at all.

You should have the fenderwell liner installed, if for no other reason than to keep all the road debris from hitting your filter. If you want to get cold air into that area, baffling/piping works wonders.
