Default Looking Into buying a EG

Well i'm looking for my first car. i'm looking for something reliable, fun and a bit sporty and I finally narrowed it down to a EG. I'm looking for a hatch or coupe. I know the coupe is a bit faster because it has the multiport injection, I think the engine code is d15a7? So I was just wondering about this car like does it have any issues that I should know about? I was also looking to do a bit of mods like some bolts ons and possibly some suspension upgrades but nothing to extreme like coilovers, just enough to do some auto-x would be perfect!

all of them are mpfi in the eg's, if your wanting to go fast, then go with an ex/si coupe or hatch

If you are in Northern Ontario than rust is a killer on eg's. Don't buy a rusted out one, keep looking until you can find a clean one.

Ive got an EG hatch with just neuspeed springs and tockiko illumina shocks, they done me good in auto x thus far.

The stock engine is fine for small runs on back roads and autocross, my opinion is lay off the swap for a while and build the suspension.

I'm not going to be doing an engine swap. The hatchs here have the dual injection and the coupes have the multiport injection. I'm not sure what they do exactly but I know the multi has more power. Springs and shocks would be the best thing for me as I dont want to dump to much money into this car.

they are all multi port. just look around for a good non rusted one, or go to southern otnario for one. i got mine from ottawa, and it has one tiny rust spot. wont take long to fix. youll find the right one. where are you from??

i'm 4 hours north from you, Smooth Rock Falls, it's close to Timmins.

And there is a difference between the engines. The dual port makes 90hp and the multiport makes 105 hp I think.

the picture you just posted is of an ef (88-91) hatch, NOT an eg (92-95), the motor is a D15b7 though... i know all 92-95 model DX's wether coupe/hatch/sedan all come with a D15B7 (about 106hp)... the Si hatchback comes with the 1.6 liter D16z6 (125 - 130hp), but its a little heavy for a hatch.. the Ex coupe comes with a D16z6 as well.. try searching and find out more of what your looking for, look in the FAQ thread in this section of the website (PLEASE!) you will find much helpful info there... hope i was of some help...

Here's an idea! screw the EG. Go with EK. You won't be disappointed. I just swapped a j-spec gsr into my EK hatch and it's amazing...cobra mustang? beat. SI? beat. turbo probe? beat. And i've only had the car a week. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. go with hatch

yeah. do a swpa later, save on the gas. A7s aren't very fast, that's for sure, but you can get a cheap z6 swap, or y8, and those are fun to tune and play with. turbo d16= gone, and at a cheap price. good luck

lol I'm not going to do a swap. I just finished high school and i'm looking for a little car I can use to get around while i'm in college. I've never seen a ex coupe or si hatch around here so chances are i'll be getting a dx model. I'm pretty sure an ek is out of my price range as well.

yeah, a good ex or si is hard to find here. just go with the dx, or even better the cx :D
lightweight cx will be awsome if/when you do a swap.

if you really are looking for quick easy cheap power, get a cx, listen to these guys and put in a b18 non vtec. the extra money youd pay for the ex/si and maybe even a dx(ac, power steering) could be spent on the b18 with are a dime a dozen and can be swapped in a few hours.

Whats your definition of fast?? I had a z6 with a VX tranny (only could buy the motor and the trans was rebuilt) and I had a blast in it. Great for the back roads I thought. Now a swap with basic bolt-ons will net a bigger fun factor, but might push the limits of the car more than the z6 would. When I had my B16, i had heavy (22.5lbs each rim alone ) 17's and didn't take the extra time to save up for a FastBrakes upgrade (wanted the 11inch Wilwood 4-piston kit ). I was able to cause almost-car-crashing brake fade. I would come to hot into a corner and the brakes couldn't slow the rotating weight of the wheels plus the weight of the heavy 17's & tires on top of that . So when guys say get 15's or even 16's listen to them lol
