Default Please help IAVC Question

I have a manual 96 ek hatch

I am about to swap in a 98 d16y8
I also purchased a p2p manual ecu for the motor

Problem: The d16y8 I purchased for the swap is an automatic which means it has a three wire IACV on the throttle body. The manual d16y8 uses a 2 wire IACV on the intake manifold.

Possible solutions:1. Other threads say to get a manual intake manifold and throttle body>>>>> esxpensive.

2. Couldn't I just perform the three wire to two wire IACV FIX. This would save me alot of money. But I need to know for certain if this would work in this case.

So would the FIX work for me?

well you dont have to know before you put the motor in..

just do it, try the 2wire trick, if it worx it worx, if it dont it dont, then try something else.

you don't have to have an iacv for the engine to run

you have a point but I want my car to run hassle free.

Does anyone also feel that the IACV fix will work in this scenario.

Does the logic make sense.

this has been covered A LOT of times, you CANNOT use a 2 wire IACV ECU with a 3 wire AUTO EX, DX, or LX IACV or vice versa

you can convert your automatic Y8 manifold to a manual with a big drill bit an 8mm tap and some skillz, then you just need a manual IACV and throttle body

Yeah the 3-wire and 2-wire iacvs work differently so a simple wire fix will do nothing. Get a new 5-spd y8 manifold or drill the iacv holes in the back and tap the bolt threads like said above.

ok thats clears things up but will I be able to drive the car untill I get a manual intake manifold?

Will i just have a bad idle or will the car run like crap?

I need to know if the car will run good enough to drive untill I get a manual intake manifold and throttle body.

ok just got a good deal on a manual intake manifold and throttle body. cool

Now obviosly the manual intake manifold will have a two wire iavc so now will I have to perform the IACV fix since I will be using the auto y8s wiring harness which uses the three wire IACV???

Thanks just don't want to run into any more surprises.

ffsquad has the pinouts on how to do this. I put the y8 in my y7 hatch, its pretty straight forward. there's also some other stuff about the ptank sensor you should look into

aight I found out what the ptank sensor is but now im screwed.

Somebody snagged the manual intake manifold i was going to get dammm. So will I be able to drive my car untill I find a manual intake manifold?

Will it just have a shitty idle or will it drive like crap also>>>limp mode?

i have the same prob. the idle will bounce around a little and you'll get bad gas mill.if you pop the pins out of the two wire and put the black wire in the top spot of the auto intake and the yellow wire in the bottom spot in the auto the idle wont bounce in neutral. when your driveing and you let the idle drop blow 1800 rpms it will bounce around to 2200 rpms

that doesnt sound fun could i just unplug the the sensor all together????

Also I have a manual intake manifold and throttle body from a jdm d15b. Could I use this intake manifold???

Will it be a direct swap????

you can also block off the iacv completely.

some people do this, and SUPPOSEDLY it should just eliminate the coldstart high idle..

but I have the feeling the iacv does some to control your warm idle as well.
car will run for sure.
Will it run just right? Conventional wisdom says yes,
but don't quote me on it!

Thanks Tad for some advice. I guess we'll just put the motor in and try some of these temporary fixes.
