The next event is Sunday, April 21st. After that, its Sunday May 5th. For the May 5th, if you want to register, registration might still be open - http://www.autocrossers.org - follow the May 5th pre-reg link, and run.
If you like, i'll be there on the 5th and i can walk you through the event, what to bring, what to do, what not to do, how to negotiate the course, etc, etc. Its really not that hard, as long as you know where you're going - thats the biggest problem the first few autoX's

http://www.soloracer.com/articles.html has some info. Also, check out scca.org and use their region locator to find your local club. Then, just go and join them. Thats the best way to learn. Ask lots of questions, there's always people willing to help you out.
