Default Mini Me Swap Cam Gear Question.

So i can get a D16y8 head for only $75. Its in good condition with only 40,000 miles. The only thing is it has NOTHING. No dizzy, valve cover or cam gear just the head. It would be going onto a 95 civic hatch.

So my question is can I use an aftermarket cam gear and still have AC and powersteering? Can I still have those with the mini me swap in general and what parts if any would I need to get or can I just use the existing ones from my D15?

Also is the benifit to using a aftermarket gear is I will be running the stock timing? This is my daily driver so I need to keep it in good shape (the car only has 20,000 original miles) so it has to work well.

I already read the great mini me swap write up in the achives and while thats a great help it says nothing about AC. Thanks for the help.

Ok, look if you use the y8 head you need an aftermarket cam for that year or the stock y8 cam gear. an yes you can keep ac and all of that... and btw ac, powersteering runs off the crack pully... not the cam gear

Ok thats great I meant since the ac unit goes over that I wanted to make sure it would fit. I know I would have to get a Y8 cam gear aftermarket or not thats just common sense.

Thanks for the answer.

well since your car is obd1 you would want to use the P28. your also going to need to wire your car for vtec. I would also use a 92-95 EX engine harness...

What is the difference of the harness? The car is a DX. Would that make a big difference? I am not jumping into this as I still have alot of parts to get. I should also mention that the car is a auto and will be staying that way for now.

do not forget about the extra oil line so the head actually gets the oil it needs while in v-tec. run a t from you oil sending unit to the back of the head. There should be a little plug that takes oil. If you don't do that bye bye motor. Unless the y8 doesn't have the oil plug on the back side of the head. Just make sure all the holes on your head and block are the same. Cause i know a d15b7 and a d16z6 the holes are alittle diffrent. Noit sure on the y8. But check it and make sure so you don't have to buy a new motor.

According to the write up you do not need oil lines. There is an oil jet that you have to open inside the block but thats it.
