what do you need to replace? i just took my steering rack out and replaced the rack end bushing. about $10 in parts. its pretty easy. the hardest part was religning the shaft from the steering shaft to the steering rack. i think the rack isnt cheap at all. i thought it was in the 100s or 200s in price but i dont remember. if you rent the 5 piece front end kit from kragens, its a snap to take the upper ball joints off. couple of seconds with each side. i spent about 3 hours and i was fooling around and taking my time. my car feels completely different, a lot more solid and alot more feedback when driving it. your gonna have to take it all out and replace it with the new one anyways. why not keep it?

yea i just heard it sucked trying to get the old rack end bushing out. I have an extra rack thats just laying around here that i already pulled with the crossmember and i wanted to check if it was still good. Are there any tests i can perform on the rack when its off the car? Where did u get the rack end bushing and is it necessary to replace inner/outer tie rods?

don't buy a new one, just rebuild yours, if you take out out, you can have it rebuilt in about 10 mins if you have the parts ahead of time, here's what you need- rack end bushing, new bearing, probably a new c clip and a dust seal, you can purchase all this from honda for about 15 bucks, and get the bearing from some place else, becaue i think with honda you have to buy the pinion with the bearing. Don't spend money on a rebuild or a new one.

it took me 2-1/2 hours to do mine completely, and i was goofing around with the hammer trying to get the ball joint off and a trip to kragens to get the ball joint puller tool. when you have the rack off and right tie rod off, push the rack so that the right side is even with the rest of the rack, then use little slotted screwdrivers to push the little buttons on the plastic bushing. then use the little screwdrivers to push the bushing out. im not sure about the pinon and bearing, probably like 15 more minutes if that.
