Seat Belt Repair? (Please don't mention the warranty!)
Hey guys, my 1988 Honda CRX passenger seat belt siezed up on me recently and I can not track down another seat belt mechanism from the 1988 (not in the door) style.
YES I DO KNOW THERE IS A LIFETIME HONDA WARRANTY ON SEATBELTS
YES I TOOK MY CAR TO HONDA AND HAD IT INSPECTED
YES THEY "ORDERED THE PART"
The part was said to be out of production and now they needed to search their dealer database, this has been going on for months now and apparently this is on backstock everywhere and no one has them.
That being said I WANT TO FIX MY SEATBELT! (The mechanism will not uncoil or recoil) I have to take out a ton of interior to access this but I am willing to if I can actually have a shot at fixing this! Has anyone else done anything similar?! Any tips?

Call a junkyard near you and see who has one. If that does not work out for you search the web for junkyards until you find a place that has what you need. Im sure someone will be willing to ship you the part you need. Yes you may have to pay a premium for this service but what are you other options at this point?

Here. Order one from HondaAutomotiveParts.com and when it comes in, bring it to your dealer and have them reimburse you for the part & shipping...

Yes, I did read the post. Have you ever ordered anything from this company? Whenever I've ordered from them, if something was out of stock, it would say so when I pressed "add to cart". It did not say "out of stock" when I just checked, so, from past experiences, I assumed that it was in stock.
But thank you for your concern.

Seat belt functionality for the life of the car is not an optional "warranty" issue! It's a Federal Requirement made of any car manufacturer!!
Due to liability issues, most (if not all) junk yards will not sell used seat-belts.
I'd recommend you go to the dealer (with a "witness", such as your dad) and ask how to contact Honda America directly to resolve the issue. Also request how to contact the Department of Consumer Affairs.
Get documentation on when the dealer did the original order for the part.
Make it clear to the dealer that due to Honda's inaction on this issue, they have created a situation where you are forced to drive in an un-safe and illegal vehicle!
Request that they provide a rental car until your car can be repaired.
Get all this in writing.
Make it clear (even if not true) that you are willing to persue legal action.
(my personal feelings are that even if Honda wasn't required to service the part, they should make it available for purchase!!!!)
