Custom air bypass valve?
Has anyone even thought of or trying to put and air bypass valve on their cai's? i know that it's only one piece but u could always cut a section out of the intake between the maf and the filter and put it in there. You know that aem sells the valves seperately also, there's only 4 different part #'s for all the vehicles that u can get the bypass valve for and i finally found out the sizes of them. All you need to know is the diameter of the piping on the cai. And i also know that u'll lose a lil bit of hp for this buit it'll be worth it when u don't hydrolock. Just a thought, whatcha guys think? My Si will be coming any day now and will defiantely try this when i get the money to buy the CAI.
20-400s = 2.25"
20-401s = 2.5"
20-402s = 2.75"
20-403s = 3.0"
here's a site where u can get them for $45 http://www.drivewire.com/perfo....html

omg man...don't do it
maf = mass air flow
map = manifold absolute pressure (old b series)
you can't use a bypass valve with your maf sensor....it would change the flow and mess your engines perception of engine load
it was ok to do this with the old b-series motors because the valve would not effect the pressure in the manifold (engine load)

i was considering that too, but you here people say dont do it, its no good. i dont know what im going to do in the future but would like to modify the air intake. I hear people talking about the short ram intake and they say it only makes noise and you can suck in too much hot air. I think im just going to wait a while.
I know what a maf and map are and as long as u have the bypass between the maf and filter it won't make a difference. I could see if u put the bypass between the maf and throttle body that would throw things off.
Oh and the reason i heard that AEM doesn't make a bypass valve for it is because of clearance issues cause the pipe is crammed and there's supposedly no room to put it. We'll see about that once i pick mine up, tomorrow or friday.
