Default Auto to stick trade in ??

Hmm just wondering about switching from my automatic coupe LX to a maybe manual shift. A couple of my friends said I should do it and right now I have about 1900 miles on it, just wondering what you guys thought about it, and if it is possible. Also whats the best way to fix the paint? I don't know how it happened but wen I was leaving to get in my car I saw two scratches on the rear bumper, they aren't that big, but one of them is a thick one, with the paint scraped off or soemthing all you can see is the black under the paint. There are still some paint remaining, but its like a tiny lump or however u, put it, it's like someone scraped my paint to the left side and theres just a thick black small line. Should I get some touch up paint from the dealer or any other tips?

do it steven. bryant already taught you how to drive stick. and with a new car it'll be much easier. and the paint. go to walmart and buy scratch remover or polisher etc and buff it out. i'll help you do it when i'm free. touch up paint will help too, get it. and when did u notice the scratches?

Your never going to get what you paid for the car at this point so if your determined to get a standard you should sooner than later. But like I said financialy your loosing money if you do it.

I don't think its worth the loss... financially. At this point I'd rather have an automatic but I'm not going to lose all that money just to trade transmissions.

automatic sucks *** dude. unless your used to pressing the gas a bit harder and maybe if you used the car more as a weekend car driving your gf around, then definately go with the standard.

youll save more gas, get accelerate faster, and have something to do with your right hand and left foot.

tho with an automatic you can mess around while driving which is actually kinda fun with a gf. muahaha.

Heh thx for the tips guys, I guess I'll probably keep it unless the dealer offers me something good. I can't really afford to pay for it because of college, so even if I do change to manual thatll be in the future, swapping the transmission.

And JIMMY I would like my games back and the cap and gown that you have. Dont make me come to ur house. Ill be waitin on that touch up paint and help me out with changing the headlight bulbs.

The AUTO version of the FG saves more gas... the gears are way different.

Sometimes when I step on the gas pedal my car just jumps it jerks or something from stop to go. Or is that just me?

did you read the EPA ratings? Gears are gears, they still got a torque converter = loss of energy and efficiency. And they only have 4 gears apposed to 5 better spaced and I believe unless the torque converter locked up, the 5spd would always be at a lower rpm.

Games? I'm not done beating the "fayth" yet. That lil' gay moutain part where you go into the cave and these stupidass aliens hiding inside a jar and self destructs before you can kill them. And I dropped off the cap and gown at hinhs already. Go ahead and buy the materials you need. Headlight bulbs are easy. I should be free on the weekends.

your stepping too hard or its your drive by throttle control. On the new cars when you step on the gas you don't really step on the gas. You step on a sensor that sends a signal to a computer that operates how much gas is fed into the engine.

The EPA ratings are higher... which probably doesn't mean anything but... the RPMs are always LOWER on the auto FG

I've gotten this info from people on this board with auto transmissions. They're getting better mpg as well. Ask around

Really? that is quite interesting. They must've designed the transmission with very long gears and a lock up torque converter that works very well to help create torque inbetween them.

I remember on a 90 integra auto, the rpms always shot up to 2-3k when cruising around 45mph vs an integra that hits 1.8k around 45mph no jumping around in 5th gear stick.

I have a civic cx that hits nearly 2k at 65mph and like 2.2k at 75mph in 5th gear.

What are your cruising rpms on the freeway and around 40mph?

lol cruising on the freeway @ 40mph? That's asking to be smashed into. Anything less than 60mph is asking for it around here.

I don't really remember the RPMs in 5th at 40mph... the only thing I do know is that 3k=69mph.

I'll try to check next time I'm in the car. Mine is manual btw. I remember someone on here telling us his RPMs on his auto and they were really low.

Part of the reason the auto gets better mileage on the new Civics is because it's a 5 spd auto, and like some of you have already said, the final drive ratio is a lot lower than the manual.
