205/40-17 is a smaller diameter so it will make the gap greater.
But you should get the proper size tires for your car, with the same outer diameter as stock. If you have a Prelude which came from the factory with 205/50-16, then get tires that are roughly the same outer diameter, which means 205/45-17. If you have an Integra, then get 205/40-17 (or 205/45-16).
