I've got an 8 channel amplifier. Its an a/d/s 860MX Powerplate. I looked it up, and found that it puts out 60 watts per channel, unbridged. Got some kid who wants to buy it to power two subwoofers. I'm not so sure what the range is on his subs, i just know they can handle a maximum of 300 watts each. I'm trying to find out if this amplifier is suitable for powering those subs, because if it is, hes buying it. Also, anyone know how much the a/d/s 860MX Powerplate is worth? Is it a decent quality amp? it was given to me. Any useful information is much appreciated!
The 860MX is an 8ch 8x60W into 4 ohms, each pr. of channels can be bridged for a total of 4ch 4x120W into 4 ohms.
If the subs are 4 ohm and the 300W is max/peak power, meaning the "RMS" power is about 100W, then yes, it would work, you could bridge 2 sets of the outputs and use them for the subs leaving you with 4x60W or 2x120W.
However it assumes that the subs are 100W "RMS" subs.
There is an 840MX on eBay with a bid of $45 right now... http://cgi.ebay.com/ADS-A-D-S-...wItem
A/D/S/ was a pretty good brand in it's day, [considered "high end"] although not sure about now that DEI owns it.
