Running an amp at a higher than rated impedance
exactly as the title says, is it safe to run an stereo subwoofer amplfier at a higher than rated impedene? i know most people are doing the exact opposite and trying to run it at the lowest impedance but what im looking to do is this: run my hifonics colossus XI amp at 8 ohms stereo to power 2 JL audio 12" w6's rated @ 400W RMS
My amp puts out 600x2 @ 4 ohms RMS
So theoreticaly it would put out 300W X2 @ 8 ohms correct?
And another question is would i damage the speakers if i just ran them at the amps rated 600w RMS X 2 @4 ohms?

Impedence represents a load.
The higher the impedence the less of a load it is to the amplifier.
An amplifier will work harder to drive a low impedence load.
Your amp will run cooler when driving a higher impedence load.
