when i took my valve cover off and i noticed around some of the walls near hte valves it is a little beatup like this....





What causes this?

 

The only way I could imagine is if somebody hit it with something.

 

i take it back..ive seen this when i saw someone trying to clean the inside of the head by scraping the sludge off it

 

those mostly are from cast, both of my ls heads have that and my b16 head does too.

 

yeah the owner before had the motor rebuilt due to sucking up water through a cold air intake but i figured he had nothing done to the heads unless something happend to the head when it had a water in the motor. that cyl head is 136k miles old btw not like it matters. motor was rebuilt at 99k

 

i've seen those before, they said its normal.

yea i have the same **** on mine. its just the way cast is made

i look at many many b-series heads every day this is on all of them.
