Default JDM Type-S Motor with a USDM Type-SH ECU

Okay, I blew my SH motor. I'm getting a Type-S swap which is also compatible with the ATTS unit in the SH. I'm also going to be swapping an OBD2 oil pump onto the Type-S motor for the crank sensor. I'm considering using the factory OBD2 ecu but what would be my disadvantages?

Would I be running less power than I should?

Would I have a check engine light on?

Any other problems? Comment's? Feedback?

Thanks for reading.

The Type S is higher compression, and has different cams, etc. Timing and fuel maps will be different. You need the appropriate ecu.

They're not giving you the Type-S ECU as well? It would probably be optimal.

the Type S is a direct swap, you dont need to swap oil pumps.

Well, I wanted to put in a new oil pump anyways, so I don't have to deal with it later. You know... since the engine is out anyways. :::: What do you guys think? Is it likely that an oil pump goes out on an H22?

Don't forget water pump, belts, knock sensor (an issue for many people), auto-manual tensioner. It's so easy doing anything with the engine out, so do as much preventative maintenance as possible..

Yup got most of that down. Water pump, idler pulley, belts. I haven't thought about the knock sensor though. Or the auto-manual tensioner. What is that anyways? I heard something about it but not much detail

it is refering to the auto tensioner to manual tensioner conversion... it's more reliabe as many of the auto tensioners give out prematurely.

And how likely is it that a knock sensor goes out? What's it for? What's the worst that can happen if I let one go bad for a long time?

when you get a knock sensor cel, the ecu retards your total timing by 3 degrees as a precaution to detonation. They break very easily and are not cheap. This is one reason i went with a p28 ecu.

Why would you need an OBdII Oil pump?? Type S is a OBDII

Maybe your thinking of a JDM H22a.. Not the type s

Well... it's supposed to be the one with the Red Valve Cover. Isn't that the Type-S? I guess my mechanic is a little confused. Not a very good sign. So all Type-S motors are OBD2?

So if I would run my factory SH ECU with the Type-S motor, would that be a bad idea? Would I be running with only 200hp instead of 223hp?

the power is in the motor, not the ecu. However, your power will be limited due to the factory ecu still believing you have a 200hp motor when you have a 220hp motor.
