Today I was changing my rotors and brake pads, and one of the tie rods (it was bent). In the process of doing so i noticed that one of my cv boots is leaking, there seems to be a rip on it.

Now my question is, if I were to get my car aligned (since i did the tie rod change), and later did a cv boot change, will this mess up my alignment? If i were to change the boot, is that all i need to change? just the boot? or do i need to change the whole axle?

 

Your alignment will remain the same. As long as you don't touch the tie rod. For example Seperate LCA and balljoint. Remove the axle.

Now for whether you need a boot or axle. I usually go by if its not clicking yet do the boot. 15 dollars as opposed to 50 dollars.

If it has begun to click a reman axle is suggested.

 

as said above, your alignment will remain the same as long as you dont change any of the suspension components.

if you can pocket it, buy a new axle. the boot replacement kits are crap. they are split down the middle so you can then warp it around the CV joint, then come with either screws or staples. it wont be a completely seal and wont last long. you would be better off buying the axle. the boot replacement is just a temporary fix.
