Default ball joints

hey i have a 94 del Sol vtec

i was putting in my new axles when i noticed that both my lower ball joints were severely dry-rotted, and the passenger side has alot of slop. i ordered up a new set, but when i went to go take out the old ones, i couldnt figure out how they come out.

i work at a ford dealership, and they are either riveted or pressed.

are honda's pressed?

any advice/ input on how to remove the lower ball joints would be greatly appreciated.

they are pressed, then held in by a snap ring. i did them on 2 cars in the past month or so, and its pretty easy. once you remove the snap ring, you can hammer them out, simple

I usually just remove the dust boot with some dikes. Once you have broken the taper of course. Make sure you remove the snap ring also. And I use my CP 717 chissel gun with a curved wide bit and hammer those suckers out. Yea its the best chissel gun evar!!! Then I just tap them in with a hammer.

is the snap ring inside the boot, or is that the dust/dirt covered ring on the topside of the ball joint?

Press them out,or just use a traditional hammer and pound them out. An air hammer is far from needed, and are quite destructive. I have the strongest one made from snap-on and I barely use it. A good ol hammer will work just fine. (remove the snap rings of course)

man...maybe im blind, maybe im just retarded, but nowhere on the oem ball joint, can i find a snap ring to take out. The new ones have one, and its a very noticeable snap ring. I took the spiral clip off the old boot, and removed the boot, cleaned all the grease out, and still no sign of a snap ring.

more helpppp

it makes sense to me that honda would put a snap ring right below the spindle where the ball joint is pressed in to. The top of the ball joint is flared, so im assuming it is pressed in from the top, which makes the bottom a good place for a snap ring

but i dont see the two little holes for my snap ring pliers like the new ring has
