Default my first experience with theft and my ITR... :(

so I was pretty stoked to pick up a set of 16x7 +35 4x114.3 Silver Volk TE-37's for a decent price locally. some kid had them on his accord which he sold, but kept the rims. picked them up from him a few weeks ago and then proceeded to unmount the big old 205/55/16's immediately. the te's have been sitting in my garage ever sicne.

the wheels will be for street use only while i burn through 2 sets of 15" azenis on the stock 96 spec JDM ITR rims and a set of nt01's as well for track days. this is the reason why i got street tires for the volks, 205/45/16 Kumho Ecsta ASX, all season high performance, as i want them to be good in rain, and last forever.

so after work yesterday I bought the tires from a good friend of mine who manages a discount tire store, he mounted them up on the TE's, and I was rolling in style last night. i was worried about the bigger wheels with stock suspension, and the car looking like a 4x4, but it actually looks really nice. the low offset of the rims on my stock 96 spec 4x114.3 hubs makes the rims stick out further than I thought they would, so a big drop in ride height would require some serious negative camber even on 205 series tires, so as not to rub on the fender (96 spec JDM ITR hubs are not spaced in 5mm like 98 spec JDM and USDM ITR hubs).

okay, back on the topic of theft... it is my wife's b-day tomorrow, so I went to the mall with my buddy (he drives a CW 97 JDM ITR 3-door, mine is a sedan). we were both a bit sketchy about parking at the mall, but we justified it would be only a few minutes while we were inside shopping for some perfume and other small stuff. we parked in BFE in the lot, so as to avoid door dings.

i came back out after an hour or so, and i was glad to see both cars were there. got in my car and drove home. i was showing my wife the new wheels after I got him, and I looked down and noticed all my "RAYS" valve stem caps weren't there. I called my friend who mounted the tires to see if they were still at his shop, and unfortunately for me, he remembered specifically putting each one of them back on the wheels after putting air in them. my other friend who was there with me at the tire shop also remembered seeing them all on the car.

some jackass saw my car while I was inside the mall and decided to be cute and steal all 4 of my valve stem caps. MAN was I pissed. You can't buy just the caps from Rays (I tried to with my GT-C's on my R32), you have to buy the whole valve stem assembly to get the cap. If I remember right they're like $15-20/piece, so that's $60-80 down the drain because some moron decided to vandalize my car. I haven't had any problems with the car since I bought it in March, but I learned my lesson really quick. that was the first and only time I'll leave it parked in a public place for more than 10 minutes (if that), and I will never leave it unattended at a mall again.

expletive thieves. glad my car wasn't stolen though.

***

Cliff notes: got new te37's on my jdm itr sedan last night, parked at mall for 1 hour, Rays valve stem caps stolen, have to buy complete new valve stems now since Mackin won't sell just caps. argh...

***

crappy cell phone pics, but better than nothing:

Isn't that the ******* truth.

There are two kinds of people in this world;
those with status

and

those trying to get it (or take the status of others)

thanks for all the support guys. when it happened the first thing i thought of was all the other ITR owners who have posted theft stories in this forum. just more proof that our cars are not safe when left unattended in public places.

When I go to the mall I try and park in the thick of other cars; its alot harder to spot than 2 ITR's sitting by themselves out in the open.

Unless your PY!

Parking "In the Thick of Cars" also makes it easier for a theif to make it look like he isnt stealing your car, but merely having trouble with the key.

Plus comming out to your car with door dings isnt fun either.

Same thing with my Ray's valve stems. Had the wheels on the car for no longer than a week, go to a meet over at BW3, and as we walk back to the cars, we see some kids pedaling away on their BMX's.

Didn't realize it at the moment, but as we got back to the cars, four of us were missing valve stem caps. The idiot kids stole these things for their BMX bikes.......!!!!!!!!

You may want to check to see if the mall has any kind of surveillance. If it was someone driving by, you may be able to get a license plate hit.
