Default 4 Channel or 2?

i have an 96 integra sedan, and i ordered some 6x9's (Alpine Type R's), i know they will sound a lot better with an amp. but do i just need to power these or the ones in the front doors too?

nvm i figured it out, going to go with 4, and bridge it for a sub in the trunk. with the amp placed on the back of the rear seats. is there a way to get a powerful amp, and tone it down for the speakers so i still have enough for the sub without blowing out the speakers, because to not overpower the speakers, i can only get an amp powerful enough to power an Alpine type E, not the best sub.

If you're going to put an amp on anything put it on the front speakers. an amp on the back speakers will just sound retarded it'll be so over powering.

I agree, you should get some fronts and power those with the amp. The rears are not really necessary.

With that being said, I also have an Integra sedan (99 GS), and some Alpine Type R 6x9's in the rear. Additionally, in the front I have some Infinity Components. Both the front and rear speakers are pushed by a Rockford Fosgate 400a4 amp. After messing around a bit, I have settled in on having nearly all of the sound coming from the fronts - the rears provide a touch of fill, and are mostly there for people who happen to sit in the back seat. In addition I have a 10" Alpine Type R sub that is pushed by a RF 250a2.

In case you are looking for ideas for your trunk, here is what mine looks like. You can do some pretty cool/space saving things with the trunk in the sedans.

/\ the install looks pretty clean, so if anything do the fronts and the sub? also if my deck only one set of preouts, is that enough for a 4 channel amp?

Invest in the Alpine 9856. Get a JL 6.5" component set for the front doors. Build a baffle for the rear deck and use the 6x9's for midbass and keep your sub. If you have the money get the JL 5 ch. amp. Or run two amps, a mono for your sub, a four channel for your component set and your 6x9's.

i'd ditch the 6x9s since you have real bass; get a 5.25" probably since it's just rear fill and these will have a smaller mounting depth. i would probably skip the rears for now and see how it sounds. if needed, wire rears to the headunit power. and for $20 more, i'd move up to the cda-9856 with 3 preouts and the ai-net connection for enhancements like bluetooth, usb driver, fullspeed ipod connection, etc.

My turn, first I agree you should move up to the CDA-9856 from the CDE-9852, if for no other reason then the 3 pre-outs.

Second if the Crutchfield link you give for the sub is the one you want, it is not a type E sub, but a type S sub, a 10" DVC 4 ohm 300W/900W sub, so to drive it you will need a min. 300W rms into 2 ohms amp, and as most 4ch. amps are not stable at 2 ohms when bridged, using one 4ch. amp, [in 3ch. mode] to run the front speakers and the sub is not an option.

The Infinity amp you link will work as a high-pass amp to run the front and rear speakers, as long as the speakers you install in the front are no more then 55W continuous.

I would also disconnect the tweeters in the 6x9s, [as they will only mess up the staging and imaging of the system].

If you want to run with just one 4ch. amp, [to run the fronts and sub, using HU power to run the rear speakers] then again, as long as the front speakers you get are no more then 55W it will work, but you will have to change the sub to a SVC 4ohm 100W continuous sub, as the amp you link will only make 107W rms into 4 ohms when two of the channels are bridged.

If you want to use the sub you link you will need a 300W into 2 ohms mono block sub amp to drive it properly. 94
