Are these 2 problems related
89 EF Civic
Both of these annoyances ONLY occur when the car has been driven for awhile and the engine is still hot.
The first thing is that if the car is started up with a warm engine the accelrator pedal wants to stick slightly, but only for a minute or two. I can tap on the pedal (for now) to get it to go back to normal.
The next thing is when the engine is warm, it doesn't always want to start. It will crank, but not start. I can turn the key to "on", hear a click (check engine light comes on), fuel pump comes on, then another click (check engine light goes off). I can wait about 20 minutes and it starts up with no problem at all except that the accelerator pedal will be sticking for a few minutes.
I don't know if the sticking pedal is causing the other issue or if they are 2 separate things.

I've had similar problems, but mine are all engine won't crank electrical related...
Check out this link for trouble shooting tips on the main relay:

If you need to work on it, its a bitch to get to... it can be done tho...

they dont sound related.
first one might be the throtle cable gettin stuck on something? or maybe some gunk build up where the cable meets the TB
second problem might be the main relay.

re: throttle sticking
check where the cable goes thru the firewall, theres a rubber bushing, could be junk in there too. Don't use grease on it! Dirt WILL collect and cause problems esp in this location.

More then likely a dirty TB for the sticky idle. When it's cold, it gums up real nice. When I got my ZC is was so bad and gummed out (dried up oil) then when I turned the TB to check it out, it got stuck 100% open. After I took it off and scrubbed it, you would think it's from factory.
Other one, main relay, mine did the same. Drive for 2 hours, go pump gas, car wouldn't start for 20 minutes until the main relay was cold again.

Now I went to the local auto parts store and told them that I wanted to get another main relay, since I suspected that that might be the problem with the starting. they typed all of my info in their computers and came up with nothing. They then told me my car had relays of all kinds, but not a main relay. I argued with them, until they pulled out a book of parts to cross reference it with. They then proceeded to tell me that only the Accords have main relays in them. I got mad and went out and sat in my car until it was cool enough to start and left. I'll find another place to deal with from now on.

That's why I try to order online. Lots of the time the people at Autozone not only don't know what they're talking about, but they love to act like you don't know what you're talking about.
