New A/C Compressor
I need to replace the a/c compressor in my car. I've got the hasport relocation bracket for my stock d-series compressor, but that one has crapped out on me. Will any d-series compressor work for me? That is, are all the d-series compressors basically the same?

There are two different compressors used:
Sanden and Matsushita.
The first step is to find out which one you have,
So look for a tag behind the drivers headlamp or
on the compressor itself.
I believe the lines are different between the two
so if you get a different compressor than what you have now
you would have to change the compressor lines as well.

Nope go check out the hasport website and under the instructions for the efac bracket it has pix of the difference between the sanden and the mits. I beleive mitsu has the lines spread apart

To tell the truth, I'm checking out their website and I can't find a damn thing about the a/c bracket. Funny, cause I know I ordered it directly from hasport. I think I did it over the phone though.

look what I found under tech support http://hasport.com/Tech/Hasport%20.htm now scroll down to were it says efac and click
The two compressors look totally different. My 91 CRX has the Sanden one. I got the AC bracket from Hasport and the AC compressor from ebay. If you need one look for "a9star9a" he sells new compressors and I've had if for two years now and it is still working great. Of course I converted to R134A because R12 is so expensive. It cools my car enough but its up to you and where you live.

Not much.
Don't buy a used one. Get a new or a rebuilt. And make sure you buy a NEW drier. It's an absolute MUST anytime you open the a/c system.
It has been my experience that the Matsushita equipped cars never quite work as well as the ones with the Sanden compressors. This is after having owned two of each. Of course this could be a unique experience, but I've also heard that the Shita compressors have a higher failure rate.
And the lines ARE different between the two systems.
On the underside of our hoods there's a badge that gives you a compressor # and the manufacturer.

if it helps, i have to complete a/c systems. agian, they are from a 91 crx si and a 90 std. hatch. i have all the parts/pieces, including the lines. if you need any of it, let me know. i gotta get rid of it, so i'll sell cheap.
