Default 04 Civic EX dash question

Hi all, newbie here. From what I can tell it looks like a good place.

I just got a Garmin Nuvi GPS for my 04' Civic EX. I mounted it on the dash just above the Hazard light switch. I would like to run the power wires through the dash so I don't have the crappy cord hanging down to the lighter. Can anyone tell me how hard it is to take out the climate control portion of the dash? I don't have a manual and was wondering if anyone else has done this.
Specifically, does anyone know if there is enough room to drill a small hole just above the hazard light switch without interfering with anything internally?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

OK. Do I have to take the whole center console out (Armrest all the way forward to cupholders) to get the cig lighter piece off?

Thanks for the link. Mine looks a bit different than that. Should I post a pic? I can snap one if it would help.

Mine has the swing up cover for the cupholders, and the center console looks different. It LOOKS like the console has to come out for the lighter piece to come out. Anyone know for sure if they are all like this before I start yanking on it?

I snapped a couple of pics to make sure this piece (Cig lighter part) is just held in by itself and not connected to the console any other way.

This pic shows where I am going to mount the GPS.

This pic shows where I want to drill into the dash to run the wire but I am unsure if there is enough room behind it. Can anyone here confirm if there is enough room behind it before I take the dash out? I plan to use a rubber grommet in the hole once the wire is run through it. The green dot indicates my first choice for drilling and the yellow dot indicates my second choice.

Any suggestions or thoughts are greatly appreciated!

You might want to pull the bezel out to see where the wires are, for the hazard light button. I'd hate to see you drill through those.

I won't drill until I take the bezel off. I am curious if anyone could tell me before I went through the trouble of taking all of that stuff out. If there isn't enough room then I wont bother taking it all apart and have to find another solution.

Well, I do know that there's a point to where you'd have difficulties running a cord downwards through the dash. If you try and run it directly behind the Radio unit, there's a point where there's no gap between the firewall and dash, that would make you have to run either towards the steering wheel (easier option) or the glove box (more difficult option). Other than that, I'd say mounting it on the side of the radio, with enough clearance for opening/closing the glovebox, would be the easiest to run wiring. But, that's me.

I got a chance to figure out how to pull the dash out. It was a little different than earlier posted. Everything was simple and straight forward. The hardest part was getting the courage to drill into the bezel. I decided to cut the wires to the GPS and solder them back together so the hole through the bezel is VERY small. Fortunately there was enough room to run the wiring in my first preference location. Pics aren't the best because of lighting but you will get the general idea of how it looks. I am really pleased with how it turned out. The beautiful thing is that I can take the GPS out easily and move it between cars and my motorcycle.

In this pic you can see how the wire 'dissappears' beneath the mount.

Thanks everyone.
