Default Help! Aftermarket auto-theft kill switch

My used 1998 Honda CRV came with an aftermarket auto-theft kill switch. To start the car, I have to turn the key and push one of the power window buttons up. Hasn't been a problem until now (4 yrs later). Now when I hit the button, nothing happens. It's as though I'm not even pushing the button up. I've looked under the dash, check all the fuses (which are okay) and located a black box that appears to be aftermarket. Several wires come out from the box:
Purple - goes to the back of the power window button wire harnes
Black - ground
2 brown w/male/female connectors (these are not connected to anything else nor each other)
2 black & 1 red that together join and lead to a silver box that looks factory.

If anyone has any experience with troubleshooting this type of wiring, your reply would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

The individual wires I mentioned are part of a multi-wire harness, that connects to the kill switch and the silver box. Does that make sense?

Is the silver box part of the security system? If it's the aftermarket control box you can just unhook it and everything should go back to normal. But if it's just wires going to stock components you will need to unhook and repair each wire individually.

I don't believe the silver box is aftermarket. Quality looks more like factory part. The black box I mentioned earlies is made of a lower end plastic material.
I'm over my head here, huh?

try unplugging the black box then. If it's a box about the size of a wallet with three or so connectors that are a few pins long but only one pin tall that's the alarm

Turns out it wasn't the kill-switch at all. The starter wire was frayed. Thanks for offering your help.
