Summit Point Redline: Time Attack!
Hey all,
The Summit Point Redline: Time Attack is now open for registration!
This will be the battle for the fastest car east of the Mississippi.
Several teams and racers are geared up for this one.
All info can be found here: http://redlinetimeattack.com/index-ap.html
Most of the teams that competed at the BeaveRun Time Attack are returning to defend there standing, and a many new contenders have already told me they plan to come out and take the fastest lap. This will be a great event! The fastest cars are headed out to Summit Point on August 5 & 6 2006.
The Redline: Time Attack has several classes so even if you don't have a built up Unlimited class car, you can still take the honors in our Street or Modified class. We have classes from street car to race car. For more info, please visit http://www.timeattack.com.
See you at the track track.

In the past, our Front Wheel Drive fields have been pretty sparse. Hopefully we see a decent turnout of Hondas at this Summit Point time attack event.
Even if your car is setup for Honda Challenge, if driven well on such a technical course as the Shenandoah Circuit, you stand a chance to do well. With more media coverage for this event and expanded coverage from Modified, this event may interest any sponsors you may already have. If you do well, they will get ink. :-)
Registration has been slow up until now, and we expect it to stay that way for the next couple of weeks. However, registration will pick up just as it did for California Speedway. We are expecting a packed field of 80+ cars to be in attendance at this event, so please be sure to register early enough to prevent being cutoff from registering when we hit our limit of cars.

a lightweight car and a driver who is expereienced on this track will have a huge advantage. A H1 hatch could easily take the overall win.
High hp boosted (and heavy) AWD cars wont be much good here.

that's generally not a problem at SPR. you could call the office to make sure.
I guess this explains why those, um, guys showed up at the last minute at CarGuys on memorial day to run that turbo AWD thing.
this should be interesting. Shenandoah is without a doubt a drivers track, not a HP track.

This Time Attack is gearing up to be a good show.
We always get plenty of all wheel & rear drive cars.
We need more FRONT wheel drive cars.
Our last time attack winner in the FF class was a Prelude.
There has to be some fast FF cars out there.
Were are all the FF cars????

So, what were the results here? Did any of you all make it? My buddy Matt in the army-green S13 240SX apparently ran a 1:46.2, and the overall winner was a 1:31.2! That is seriously hauling ***!
Just got home from summit, the jic magic car ran the fast time of the day and it was blindingly fast out there. Some realy fast evo's in mod and unlimited overall a great event
I took 2nd place in Street RWD with a 1:45.8 lap time. The NSX wasn't very suited to this track. My only mods are Bilstein shocks, intake, catback and the wheels/tires. I was running the stock sized Hankook RS2 225/50/16's in the rear and 215/40/17 RT615's in the front for as much turn in grip as possible on such a tight course. The car understeered horribly, the RS2's got greasey quick, preventing me from going WOT on the last two long sweeping turns of the course. If I had more front camber and my normal 275 Azenis in the rear I feel I could have took 1st place without a problem. Those are my excuses.

Congrats to Andrew who won the class...1st place in Street RWD with a trailered in C-West fendered S2000 running 255 Azenis all around with coilovers, all the NA power mods, etc. His winning lap time was 1:44.6 I believe.

I'm guessing this was Shanendoah course then. If a 1:45.8 on main got you 2nd place, you must have been racing in a hurricane or something....

Thanks!
You were seriously improving your times during the time attack session! I wish I had my ABS and a better alignment (yup everyone has excuses). That Evo 2 seriously handed both of us our asses on the second day though.
Anyone wondering, specs on my car are in the link in my sig.

1:44's on Shenandoah is really hauling ***... if you're driving a Spec Miata or a Spec E30.
PS- any truth to the rumor that Redline only had one (first-time) instructor on hand Saturday for the entire group of novices?

well, usually they ship in their instructors from CA (an instructor who has never seen shenandoah would be next to worthless anyway) but they couldnt make it. I think they expect their drivers to have enough experience for solo and just use the instructors for tips and such anyway.
The organizers were looking for local instructors but didnt really have anything to offer. (even track time)
and yeah, 1:31.2 is MOVING at shenandoah

We had James come out from NASA and he instructed for us on Saturday in return for getting to run for free on Sunday.
He was the only person to express interest in our offer of free track time, and thus, the only person we extended it to.
Had more QUALIFIED locals expressed interest in helping us out, you would have seen more "instructors" on Saturday.
Jeremy Croiset, the current West Coast Honda Challenge H4 Points Leader, is our chief instructor. He could not make the Summit Point event due to a race this past weekend. Normally, he comes with us and acts as Chief Instructor and works with the "local" instructors to help our less experienced participants.
The next time we come out that way, offer your services to us... and I know we can work something out. If you dont speak up, how are we to know you are/were available? We made it VERY well known that we needed help with local instructors, but yet, only one person contacted us?
