how long does an oil pump last and how can you tell if it's going out?
i'm thinking about upgrading to a VTEC oil pump but i would like to know the life expectancy of an oil pump first before i shell out the money for the pump.

its a wear and tear item. The more stress you put on your motor (via power, driving style, and method of delivery), the more stressed your oil pump becomes. Drive it like a saint, it'll last the life of the motor. Rev it/boost it to high hell, it'll explode in spectacular fashion. They don't go with warning - usually, they just seize or shatter, and you lose oil pressure, and if you're not quick, you'll spin a bearing or even throw a rod.
