Broke my 4.7 FD Should i go with THE ATS 4.9 fd?
Well recently i heard this whining noise and it got alot worse so i decided to tear the tranny down well what do i find all but 3 teeth are missing on the pinion shaft. Everything else in the tranny is fine except the ring gear which is kinda rough on the edges but looks to be usuable. So while its apart im gonna do all new collars bearings and synchros. but should i just get another 4.785 fd or get the ats 4.9.
the car only sees the street about 2-3 days a week so mpg isnt a big issue. Is it even worth it i mean is the performance gain worth the extra money?
thanks

if its cheap then go for it......if its gonna cost you allot then i would say its not worth it.......going from 4.78 to 4.9 will hardly be noticeable IMO.
BUT if the cost of getting a new ring and pinion in 4.9 is the same as a replacement 4.78 then yes do it......you should replace both the ring and pinion at the same time.....especially if you have a damaged pinion it may have damaged the ring also.

To replace just the ring and pinion from the jdm unit to the ats would cost me 700 where as the jdm unit will cost me 500 and tack another 200 on top of that for the ats first gear. i just need to know if this mod is worth while?
