??How do you know what to change on a transmission??
I have a Si/Ex Tranny on my car now that makes all kinds of rattling and noises. So I got my friend to give me his old Si/Ex tranny (for free) that he had left over from his SOHC days and i would rebuild that one for no down time. He said it was making a noise before he took it off. I figured I would just crack it open and inspect it.
When I opened it up the Teeth from the Final Drive (on the diff.) and the teeth on the countershaft that coincide with it were broken. It was like six teeth missing from the FD and like 3/4 of all the teeth on the contersahft gear. I inspected the bearings and it seems fine, so I'm not sure what to look for? I purchased a CX final drive and counter shaft to replace it with (I am going Turbo), but I am not sure if there is something else that needs to be replaced? I was thinking of just changing ALL the bearings....
Anybody think they might know what caused the teeth to just break off in the first place??
Help would be appreciated...

shifting to fast and grinding the gears to **** when something that meshes together breaks usually friction will break it so it seems like there your answer.

Yeah that would do it...
Guess I will just check clearances like the Helms says, replace the bearings, FD and couter shaft, just put it back together...
Thanks for your input bro, your the only one to answer...

A shitload of abuse with a strong clutch can break stuff like that. Or a poor rebuild on the tranny (unless it hasn't been cracked open and fixed since the factory built it).
However, with all of the teeth breaking, more than likely some/most/all bearings were possibly damaged with debris and shavings. So you will want to replace them. Check to see which spin freely or not, some will be fine. Just clean them out. But the ones that bind and lock will need replaced.

don't buy anything except the proper tools to take it apart. Take pictures of stuff.
If the gears have been grinded to hell, I suggest that you get an infinitude gearset. I LOVE mine. And you'll need to replace those parts anyways.
480 for a 3rd and 5th gear which makes a nice close ratio 2/3/4/5
EDIT: Reading over what I've read, I realized that it may look like i'm pushing sales for infinitude. That isnot the case, I am just very happy with my product and LOVE the rpm drops.

The gears still look new.... they still have that squarish-flat teeth \_/ <---- like helms says it should but it doesnt hurt to look into that set while I have it open....
