would camshafts, camgears, valves, retainers, springs help out my b18a?
i was planning on helping out the cylinder head by adding the parts i listed above.i was planning on going with skunk2. any help on this idea will be appriciated.
yes a b18 or any engine needs all those things to run. so they will help it.
if your talking about after market stuff thats about 1000 dollars worth of junk to help out your b18a. and youll need some more stuff if you want to take full advantage of those cams, camgears, valves, retainers, and springs. such as fuel management and better flowing intake and exhaust manifolds. if you do all those things it will definately help your b18a. but then you will be spending around 2k.

but if u put in boost then how will your engine run? i was never a fan of turbo an dont really understand it! i love N/A!!!Bt say you get turbo an u only do minor upgrades! then as long as u dont mash an beat on it wats still the life expectency of the engine?

lol, but if you build a motor for boost, it cant handle a lot more than a stock block/head could. meaning you will have a lot more fun out of it :D but again.... going fast is expensive. just depends how much you want that car to pull

Damn , Now that's a statement , sad but so true !

My b18b was pretty much stock except for some ITR pistons. It used to run out of steam and get wheezy by about 5800 rpms. I added a set of adjustable cam gears, messed around with the settings/ignition timing and now it pulls hard all the way to redline without sacrificing any bottom end. Just being able to tune what I have made an appreciable difference.

Give the guy a break, he's probably under 20 and was raised by the television.
Anyway.. to the original topic poster....
Even with all those upgrades, you'll need head work and some high comp. pistons to get the most out of them and by the time you spend all that $ you could have a GSR swap that puts out comparable HP and then have an even better platform to build on.

got any dyno charts? Or was it the butt dyno?
got any dyno charts? Or was it the butt dyno?
The car has been dyno'd a couple times...but not immediately prior to and after this one mod. And even than, I've never scanned them because they're quite unspectacular, not worth bragging about.
Its has been G-Tech'd a million times. Its better than a butt dyno and cheaper than a real dyno.
And to top it all off...that was 4+ years ago. I can't remember my own phone number from four years ago.
For 2000$ you will either have a really shitty boost setup with a few really nice parts, or a decently built LSVTEC.
I say buy a B16A head. Get some ITR (or the GSR for less power but cheaper) pistons from honda. New bearings, piston rings, hone the block. Put the head on it, get a quick tune, and presto. LSVTEC with some decent power for less then 2000$. Once you get bored of that, boost the LSVTEC. But remember, once you boost it, you will have to change the piston again to lower comp. pistons. Maybe keep the stock LS pistons around.
