Default Calculating Average Speed

Can someone point me in the right direction to show me how to calculate average speed for a given circuit?

I *thought* it was taking the circuit length (let's say Roebling Road for example which is 2.02 miles) times 60. Take that number and divide it by your lap time.

Is this the correct way to calculate it?

Well, I kind of just made this up, and it's quite simple. You want miles per hour, so it's just that, distance divided by time. So you already have your distance in miles. Now you just have to convert your time to hours. So, take your track time in seconds and divide it by 3600 (the number of seconds in an hour). Then divide the track distance by that number. Voila.

(Track distance/Time in seconds)*3600. So say you did a 1:30 lap at RR.

(2.02/90seconds)= .02244
.02244*3600 = 80.8 MPH

edit: Kouki-EK9 beat me to it.

Mee too for answering a question that was answered 3 times.

Google search this:
2.02 miles / 90 seconds in mph

It responds:
(2.02 miles) / (90 seconds) = 80.8 mph

What if you drive a swapped Civic and need to calculate speed in miles per second?

Divide by # jackstands and multiply by the wire splices in the engine harness.

There might be a difference between the official track length and the length of the driving line. If you have, say, 6 laps in a session, set your trip meter to zero at the starting line and measure the length of your whole session. Have your passenger count the number of laps. Then divide your total time by the number of laps. This way you'll get a more accurate distance.

Oh yeah - then after you have an accurate distance, you can take your fastest lap and figure out the average speed for that.
