Default LS/VTEC vs Turbo

what do u think i should do ls/vtec or get a turbo kit
i have a 95 rs with 110K on it
the reliability is important since this is my daily driver
to be faster then stock gsrs and maybe ITR's so pretty much 200-250 hp
i know the ls/vtec wont get me to 250 but i can dream
what do u thikn i will spend on each setup?

A well tuned turbo setup can get you 200 whp at 6psi of boost. I think that'll probably be more reliable than a comparibly priced LS/VTEC and cheaper than a well-built LS/VTEC. Plus, turbo is WAY cooler.

And if you're budget allows (now or later) you can build up your block and easily put 300+ hp to the ground. Try doing that with an LS/VTEC (unless you turbo it)

tuRrRrRrRrRrRrRrboooo!!! i think its more reliable than ls/vtec, as long as you dont hit turbo all the time as a daily driver. It looks alot cooler too, and people will shutter at the sight of you and domestics won't know what hit them. I had the same problem though at one point but then i saw the possibilities with a turbo. Major boost!!!! Teg + well tuned turbo = glorious transportation

Default Turbo

I would love to turbo my car. But I live in California, so no blowoff valve, and no intercooler . And since my car is my daily driver I would have to worry about down/shop time, tuning, $$$, and getting the car to pass smog (as it gets older), and engine life, bleh!

Maybe I will just find a 2000 EK9, swap in a B18C1, move out of California, and then turbo the car and slap in a turbo/bov/intercooler .

Hmm as long as you don't drive like an *** I don't see why a cop would pull you over for havin a front mount and that sweet pshhhh hehe. I also live in CA too oh well. But in my opinion I'd prefer turbo more vs an ls/vtec setup. Reliability is on how well the person maintain their car not the turbo itself Good luck.

I wouldn't be worried about being pulled over. I would have problems passing smog. Here in California, when you go in to take your car to get it smogged, and the person sees an Intercooler and a BOV that blows off into the atmosphere, then it's automatic fail.

It depends on how patient you are and how much you're willing to learn. You can probably save enough money with a custom setup that you could get a hondata (or equivalent) which would be a really good idea. If you get a kit, you can go without something like that but if you decided to get one down the road then you'll have a bunch of **** that you really didn't need in the first place.

Kits are easy though...pretty much bolt on, tune and go.

Common kits for hondas are Greddy (CARB legal), Drag, Fmax, Revhard. There might be more now, I'm not sure. Just do a search on google and you'll find lots of stuff.

Also check out this site to get you started.

True thats why you need to know some place that will hook you up. Or each time your doin your emission test take out the turbo then reput back on after finish passin the emission more hassle but it gets the job done

You can just take the intercooler and BOV off when you get the car smogged. Make sure its a Greddy Turbo because I think they are they only ones that will pass.

Getting pulled over or haveing a random smog check is another story. Its a big risk in Cali. I think I might just SC my car instead since I have all the other mods in there. That way I will still be legal.

who says? i had 115,000+ miles on my car when i decided to boost. the thing is... its all a matter of tuning and makin sure you dont abuse your engine. unfortunately... im boost happy so im pretty much abusing my motor, which is a bad thing. i have to agree though... the more miles on your engine... the higher the risk of blowing your motor. however, a rebuild is always recommended. it doesnt necessarily have to be at 100,000 miles.

IN MY OPINION,
LSVTEC aint all that. i raced a good # of LSvtecs and blew their doors off. i even gave an integ with a LSVtec setup a car head start on purpose and still spanked his *** at the end of the 1/4 mile at the track. 13.8 (me), 14.5 (lsvtec). go with TURBO. its worth it.
