May have to miss CMP......
The guy who was loaning me his Blazer told me tonight that the tow hitch he thought he could put on the car doesn't fit. I have one day to try to find a hitch to put on this thing, or I don't have a tow vehicle. 11 1/2 hours is a long way to drive my racecar.....
Matt
Anybody know ANYONE near Philly/Delaware/MD/DC who can loan/rent me a tow vehicle and dolly/trailer?

Roundabout what did it cost?
I called u haul on the phone, as i need to go pick up an RX7 in a few weeks. They had said $800 or so for a one way haul from wisconsin to Va (15 hours). The two way (take it back where i got it from) was cheaper up front but the per mile fee i was quoted would have put me over $1100...

Were they trying to screw me?
Ryan - who got numerous voicemails after i made a cost inquiry for follow ups and/or harrassment from u-haul

Not sure about a tow vehicle but when we went to Daytona in '00 (8 hour drive) it wasn't much at all for a trailer from U-haul.
Hey Ryan, have you priced having that RX-7 shipped via train instead? I have no first-hand experience with this, but I hear that it's not horribly expensive.
Jon
PS- Matt, sorry to hear about your dilemma... what about Davis, do they have a rig you can borrow?

By train, hmmmm.... i hadnt thought about that. The trouble is, it comes with a u-haul full of spares. If nothing else i can sort, clean, and ebay what i dont want to keep. Hell, i might even be able to break even between buying this thing and selling off spare parts...

call u-haul for hitches, they sell them, also any "truck" store will have them in stock for a blazer, i got the one for my pathfinder just by walking in to the local "trucking thunder" store and had it on about 20 mins later (just 8 bolts)
come on matt, you can find one, hell they are less than $200 that's a lot cheaper then renting a truck!

So, what you're saying is..
1. Call Enterprise and rent the biggest thing they have
2. Go buy a hitch at the truck store
3. Rent a trailer from U Haul (this is only $35 per day! i dont get it!)
4. Haul Car and crap in air-conditioned cd-playin comfort
5. Return Car, Trailer, and Hitch
Right?

As far as I know the auto trains only run north to south. People have looked into it for getting cars out to Topeka Kansas for nationals and that is what they were told.
I inquired about renting an F150 to tow to Road Atlanta last year. Triangle Rent-a-car had one for $70/day.
One racer friend of mine did that for an entire year. Was actually cheaper than buying a truck since he needed it at most twice a month.

i like the renting the f150 idea, hell if there is no hitch, buy one bolt it on and off for the weekend, then keep i for next time, rent another f150.......hell you can buy a tow doly for $750.00, that the hitch and the F150 rental is cheaper then one time use of a u-haul truck and trailer. Or be cheap for this weekend, and just rent the $35.00 a day trailer, the $70 per day truck and the $200 you can use or sell later tow hitch
either way, get your car down to CMP ;-)!
