Default help - car dvd player turns off

im triying to hook it up right now and theres only 3 wires needed... 12v in, ground... 12v remote out, ACC. all but the remote out are hooked up.

so everything works fine... had to change the fuse from 15 to 20 cuz it blew out after a few secs that it was on. ground is good... i didnt use the one on the harness just to be sure that it was really grounded.

problem:
it'll stay on for a few secs and then just turn off out of no where. fuse is good, ground is good. cant think of anything else that would make it turn off. any ideas.. ???

that is not good at all just to change the fuse. the fuse is not there to protect your equiptment, its to protect the wire. im guessing too much amperage is goin throgh your wire, making a voltage drop that shuts down the player. i bet if u feel the wire, it gets warm/hot too

change the fuse back to the 15 and run a new wire to your device. if needed, run a wire directly from the battery, and use a 30or 40 amp rated relay(such as a bosch relay, ill post a pic of one at the bottom. you should be able to get one of these easily at a autoparts store) to switch that 12v wire from the battery on when the stock 12v is on, and it will turn off when the stock 12v wire is off.

To do this, use the stock 12v wire to turn on the relay and have the devicce u want run from the new wire u ran. to do this conenct the stock 12volt to #85 on the relay and run a ground wire to #86. then conenct the new thicker power wire (thats connected directly to the battery) to #30 on the relay and run a wire from #87 on the relay to your drvice's 12volt power wire.

The numbers represent a specific contact on the relay. the #s 85 and 86 are the coil that turn on the relay, #30 and #87 are the contacts that are turned off and on.

the reason for doin it this way is that the relay will draw minimal power from the stock wire but will be able to 'switch' a lot of current from the new wire u ran. to sum it up, when there is power to the stock wire, it will turn on the relay which will let power be drawn from your new wire.

the fuse is blowing with a 15amp fuse because its drawing too much power for the stock wire to handle. the rated fuse is the absolute max amps that the wire can safely draw. I would say 10gauge wire should be fine to run. be sure to fuse the wire when connected to the battery.

One of your lug-nuts must be loose. Just playing, sounds like it is drawing out to much power.
