Default oil consumption excessive?

I have 40, 000km's on my type R motor and I've drawn the conclusion that it eats about 250ml of oil / 425km's of driving.

If I stomp on the car then it can easily eat almost a liter of oil after I'm done playing around.

Is that normal? I've read in the past that the R motor does eat a substantial amount of oil. When I'm driving normal there isn't any blue smoke and I've checked my pcv valve.

My brother was following me today and he said when i stomped full throttle that there was a lot of black smoke mixed in with some blue smoke (burning oil) but only when I'm WOT and of course in Vtec.

comments?

I use synthetic oil if that makes any difference.

Gah! Metric makes my head hurt.

So, roughtly 1 quart every 1000 miles.. that's basically the limit of what Honda/Acura will call "normal". Sounds like you're experiencing blow-by. You should see less oil usage if you switch to conventional.

What weight of synthetic are you using?

no the engine was new and I either use 10w30 or 5w30. I try to use 5w30 as much as possible.

is there a breather filter of some sort that I can replace (I remember reading about it) that will help reduce the oil consumption?

Yeah I would say about ever 1000mi I probably use around 1 quart of oil but its dependent on temperature and driving. If it super hot out then it eats more if its cool out it doesn't seem to be quite as bad.

An archived search for oil consumption should give you some reading.

Oh look, a thread you made last year
