Tranny Noise @ 3500 rpm - need help
I have a weird rattling noise coming from what I believe is the transmission. It rattles in every gear when the rpms reach around 3400-3800. It'll sound and drive normal once the rpms are higher (or when they're under that). The car drives just fine, just annoying rattling noise. Any idea what this can be? Thanks!
EDIT: The sound is more like a constant whine than rattling.

I will check the heatshields, but wouldn't heatshields make the sounds more often and at various rpms? The noise I hear only happen at certain rpms, then goes away once I reach a higher rpm. For example, in 5th gear, 70mph, teh rpm will be right around 3500 (stock FD).
At first I thought it was the header, but I checked the bolts and everything is snug and tight. Any more possibilities or what else I can check? Thanks.

hmm do you have mugen header?coz if you do...i think that's from the mugen header...i heard all mugen header has those sound...and my one does that too..^^
If it was a tranny, more than likely the noise will always be present. As the rpm's increase the noise will get louder or be more frequent. When something is loose, like a heat shield it may not vibrate at every engine speed due to its resonate frequency.
EDIT: Have you thought about the possibilty of detonation?

take a look under the car(put it on jack stands) have ur friend rev the car, and see if u can find what it is. Check the fly wheel plate cover...not sure if that the right name. its a black plate held on my 2-3 bolts on the side of the tranny towards the bottom.

ITR's don't have this plate. They are equipped with an aluminum brace that acts as a cover for the flywheel.

I TOO have the same problem with my gsr, I took off my heat shield but the sound is still there...I'm thinking of getting my entire exhaust system re-done and possibly and complete tune-up.
My ITR makes a noise around or below 2500 instead of 3500. I posted up a clip of the sound. Does yours sound the same?

If it does, alot of people mentioned the mainshaft bearing in the tranny. I have yet to get it fixed, but its getting progressively louder. I'm thinking about giving it another shot by jacking up the car and looking for any loose parts such as the heatsheild again.
On an interesting note. If its the same noise. I think I heard the same noise slightly at idle when the AC was on. So i was thinking it might be the radiator fan so I opened up the hood and shook it and it sorts of sounds like it, but I'm pretty sure its not it. Maybe that little tid bit might bring up ideas from someone else.
