Default welding inside a merge collector

i know this has been gone over a few times (i searched) but i didnt find what i was looking for.

i'm making an NA header out of 1.6mm wall mild steel, and a merge collector out of the same stuff.

problem is i'll be mig welding it all together. no problem for the header or the outside of the merge collector, but what should i do for the inside of the merge collector? i was going to (with the settings at as low as possible naturally) weld the pipe together then painstakingly dremel the pipes to give a nice smooth finish in that area. i'm sure i could get it good enough, but it'll be very time consuming.

without resorting to a TIG, is what i have planned the best option or is there something better?

thanks!

How about just not welding the inside?

Make it a slip fit and just weld around the outside. Problem solved. I did that to my old NA mk3 supra header years ago and it worked great.

ok, thanks for the tips.

the only thing i'd be concerned about is the centre (pyramid) or the collector. i cant weld that from the outside on all of the pipes. that'll be ok?

OK Im gonna tell you a little secret.I weld the entire collector on the outside. Then I weld as far down in the center as i can. Then I take a wire feed and fill the center up to where i stopped with the heliarc. Here is what they look like..
