Cutting my CAI
I have a 93 si with an o.g. AEM cold air which I have grown attached to it. The problem is that when I had a mechanic work on my car he installed the cold air back on to rub on the side walls where it dips down into the bumber so it put a slit in it. Now should I fix the hole which is about 2 inches long or cut the damn thing and make it a short ram. Any input on preference between the two please state.
if there is a huge gash in the pipe then ghetto-rigging it ( fixing it w/ duct tape, whatever) will cause turbulence in the air flowing throuhg the intake. ghetto-rigging it will most likely diminish any performance gains from it being a CAI
cut it where the slit is
cut it where the slit is
hmm good idea bypass valve ftw
just make sure that you cut the pipe nice and even above and below where the slit is.. a hacksaw should do the trick

A properly taped up slit will not disturb air flow as much as a Bypass Valve. You can always seal it up (as long as you can get your hand in there).
A CAI with a slit will NOT bring you down to the same performance as the stock setup.
I would put a bypass valve in for safety though...
