Default Cutting my CAI

I have a 93 si with an o.g. AEM cold air which I have grown attached to it. The problem is that when I had a mechanic work on my car he installed the cold air back on to rub on the side walls where it dips down into the bumber so it put a slit in it. Now should I fix the hole which is about 2 inches long or cut the damn thing and make it a short ram. Any input on preference between the two please state.

i would say cut it where the slit is. either option would be better tha what you have now

I guess my question is by preference. Should I try and fix the cold air or would I totally be better off with a CAI

if there is a huge gash in the pipe then ghetto-rigging it ( fixing it w/ duct tape, whatever) will cause turbulence in the air flowing throuhg the intake. ghetto-rigging it will most likely diminish any performance gains from it being a CAI

cut it where the slit is

yeah, I think thats what I'll do, but what about the idea of putting a bypass valve there since it is a CAI.

hmm good idea bypass valve ftw
just make sure that you cut the pipe nice and even above and below where the slit is.. a hacksaw should do the trick

Just one more question, do you know what size bypass should I get. Do you think the 2.5'' will work?'

I had a hole in my CAI, and I just put tape around it. Works just fine

A properly taped up slit will not disturb air flow as much as a Bypass Valve. You can always seal it up (as long as you can get your hand in there).

A CAI with a slit will NOT bring you down to the same performance as the stock setup.

I would put a bypass valve in for safety though...

Make it a short ram. There's plenty of cool air flowing into the engine compartment while driving.

Its all good I took it off and the cuts didn't dig into the intake it just sliced it pretty close to too deep. Thanks anyway everyone.
