Default test pipe on RS-R ex mag

I've read alot on HT about the negatives of a test pipe and sound being one of them.... would the sound factor really be that bad on a RS-R ex mag? I feel like since the exhaust is already quiet, how bad could it actually be? unlike a N1 style exhaust, I think this setup might sound nice... anyone running an ex mag w/ test pipe and header? let mw know!

thats how I thought it would sound! So I think i'll just get a test pipe instead of a high flow cat

You are not gaining anything by running a test pipe, more likely you will be loosing some in the low - mid range for "maybe" 2hp on the upper RPM (if any at all). It is money well spent for you to get a quality high-flow converter instead. Keep in mind, Federal law requires the use of one in ALL 50 states.

If your car is "fun" IE - off road ONLY, then you can do what you want.

If you drive at all on the street, then apparently you don't understand the difference between STATE emissions laws and FEDERAL EPA laws.

Do some research first before incorrectly assuming a test pipe is beneficial in ANY way.

There are articles on T-I.net as mentioned in the thread above.

I was running a test pipe for a while until I had to smog. My uncle runs a test pipe as well on his teg....basically, if your running a stock/quiet exhaust system, your car will feel more responsive and it'll sound a bit more throatier.

I did research and people have different results, you know? I know a carsound high flow cat is good but it doesnt come with flanges and I dont even know where to get flanges from (im lazy).. and im pretty sure after the welding it will cost more than a test pipe would. I know what you're saying, though, but hah you know it is my choice... I have two friends running test pipes and their cars had more throttle response than prior stock CATs but whos to say that they wouldnt have benefitted more from a high flow CAT?? I'm just going off what I know

Yea, I'm the idiot. (sarcasm)????? Why don't you do the rest of us a favor and run the tail pipe into the cabin and see how "beneficial" that is.

jweezy225 - Contact username SMSP, he will get you set up with one with flanges.

why dont you go lay in the street and play the roll of a speed bump , every one has theyre own opinion , test pipes are cheap and do a good job, but i guess they make tree huggers like you get your pantys in a bunch.

You first.

Trees are nice, but there is this little thing called lung cancer. Perhaps if it strikes someone you love, you may have a different tune when you see some ***-hat that is too cheap to mod his car legally.

I appreciate the sympathies. Did he smoke, yes, on and off for years. Did he for some unknown reason work on a lot of hot rods/street rods around open exhaust, yes. I am sure all of it took it's toll.

I don't consider his situation much different than being stuck in traffic behind someone with open exhaust that thinks it was just his/her choice to do so. Choices have effects on others is all I want you (or anyone else) to understand.

I don't want to quote you a price since I don't work for SMSP. Just IM, or email Dave at SMSP and he will give you a quote. I only mention them since he has done a lot of business here on H-T and comparisons. He is east coast, so shipping won't hurt you. There are several places you can get a quality converter from & they all come with 5 yr warranties from the makers.
