Default New to Integra's..... Questions!!

Hey i'm new to integra's and i am interested in buying an integra 94 and up cause of the looks, and i heard that they CAN be a fast car. Again i am totally new and i know there is a Type R, GS-R, GS, and LS. I probably wont be able to afford the gs-r. So i was interested in the LS. I heard that there is LS with vtec and some with not??? Which ones do and which one doesnt? and whats the difference between the GS and LS?

AGAIN I AM NEW TO INTEGRA'S PROBABLY ALL THIS ISN'T RIGHT, BUT IM JUST LOOKING FOR HELP AND TO UNDERSTAND THEM!! any help is much appreciated!

LS's are not equipped with vtak. You are probably think of a head swap many people do called LS/vtec, which involves any vtack head and swapping it with your LS head making it an LS/ vtech.

sydegsr will explain in detail...

any integra ls from the factory stock, is equiped with the b18b motor, which is non vtec, but still a decent motor. LS/VTEC is when you swap the head of the b18b with a vtec head, for example, the b16 head, gsr head, or type r head. rewire oil lines and ecu work. im in the process of doing ls vtec right now, and i cant wait for the results.

that helped a ton! thanks. So can a Ls integra still be a fast all engine car? Does it have the potential? Or do you think that i should wait save and purchase a GSR? And the ls/vtec conversion, what results will you get with that? Is that worth it?

if you get an ls, most here are going to tell you to do one of two things:

-ls/vtec
-boost

i would take a boosted ls over a gsr or an ls/vtec any day of the week.

the ls block has great potential, a well put together ls/vtec setup would easily outrun the gsr, because the torque is there. the ls motor has a decent torque band, thats why putting a vtec head on it, is so affective

The Integra is a strong little car. I would personally go with the 90-93 (DA) Integra, but that's just me. The LS, GS and RS Integra all have the same motor; the b18a1. This is a decent motor with okay numbers. The GS-R has the b18c1 motor, this is a very good motor for any Honda. It has VTEC and puts out good numbers.

The Integra Type R is the highest model of Integras here in the United States. It has the b18c5 motor that is handbuilt, this puts out very good numbers and it comes with OEM Recaro seats, with LSD equipped in the transmission. If you can't afford a GS-R you surely can't afford a Type R.

Overall, any Integra is a good car either for daily driving or for tuning. Good luck.

well i wish i could say the same. my friend boosted his ls first, it made decent numbers, but we were way more impressed with ls/vtec, because there is so much more potential. having vtec is a blessing, and you can always boost the lsvtec down the road, with is nasty.

The b17 (not sure what the rest of the code is) was found in the DA Integra GS-R. This motor was a head of it's time IMO, it's a very strong motor and I wish it was still widely used today.
