What mods do you have that'll justify an vafc/vtec controller? If you've got cams or are going forced, then yes they're worth it.

Are you somebody that is going to eventually get your car tuned on a dyno... honestly... then get the Apex, it's got so many more adjustments(especially for partial throttle), but you aren't going to be able to tune your car by the seat of your pants with this one very easily.

If you just want it to move your VTEC point, or bump the a/f up or down a bit to compensate for mild cams, then get the Field.

That being said, I've got the Field, and wish I had the Apex unit.

Guys, I need your opinion on this one. I just got the APEXi S-AFC for my LS. My brother had his installed a while back and told me that when he got it tuned on the Dyno, he had to sign a waiver(in case the engine blew). His is a '98 LS. Mine is a '96 with 65,000 miles on it. The engine is cared for very well with oil and fluids changed regularly and rarely do I really get on it hard. So does this sound like something I should stay away from because the engine has a good chance of blowing or should I just go ahead and do it? Any input is appreciated.

Halo,
Nothing on that site indicated a new and/or improved Field unit. Even if they are refering to the harness that they now offer, that has been out for awhile. Have you heard of a new Field through any other places? I read the Japanese magazines fairly regularly(w/ the help of a japanese friend ), and I haven't seen anything indicating a new Field unit yet. Just wondering?

Autothorityteg,
These units are used to adjust the VTEC crossover point and air fuel ratios, the only way you can blow a motor is to use the unit incorrectly. I'd be wary of anyone that wanted you to sign such a document just because if they do screw up tuning your car, they SHOULD be liable for any damage.

i had the fields sfc-vtec on my Si, and just got the vafc put in today on my hybrid, and i can tell you right now the VAFC is 10000x better than the sfc-vtec. people say the field is simpler, but it took me about 15 minutes after my friend showed me how to work it to figure out all the functions

SFC-VTEC
V-AFC

VTEC2NR,
They aren't talking about signing a waiver if the engine blows as a result of the S-AFC. They are talking about if the engine blows on the dyno while they are tuning it. In other words, the engine craps out while being revved on the dyno? Is this a high threat in a well taken care of '96 LS with 65,000 miles on it?

It's the same as taching it out on the street. You figure they bring it up to the gear slowly, and then lay into it at a low RPM say 2500 RPM and run it up to redline. I'm not sure if you do this on the street, but I guarantee most of the people on H-T tach their cars out from time to time. As long as they are providing a fan to keep your car running cool enough, this shouldn't be an issue.

Halo,
They're talking about the wiring harness that is directly below the "Now, new & improved model available." The specs on that page are the same as the ones on the unit I have.

Tegsleeper,
Get the Apex, it's a better all around product for the money. Plus chicks love the display on the Apex.
