If you are talking about VAFC, then it depends on the mods to your car. The VAFC also controls A/F ratio and probably other features(not sure...don't have one)

its worth it if you have enough mods to tune it on a dyno.. i know the VAFC helps me out alot when im on the track racing cause i can set the vtec engagement..

with mods set up for tuning such as cams, timing, fuel pressure.....vtec tuning is worth it....
and these days you can get the old version vafc for well under 300....try looking around..some places are getting rid of them cheap to make room for the version 2's
plus...it looks cool and keep you occupied in traffic or at a red light...kekeke

Idealy, if you have a non-stock, aggressive cams, you can increase the engement or decrease to suit your cams. On stock cams, OEM specs are the best.
I have a Field and don't get me wrong, its pretty cool. I increased the fuel a little on top end, but that isn't doing that much. Id say find one used........

for $75, burn your own chips, make VAFC totally useless at 1/4 the price.
VTEC at 4600
target idle at 850 rpm
-15% fuel on low cam
-10% fuel on high cam
I'm running 325 cc injectors BTW.......
