ls/vtec owners!! need ur opinion
wast up everyone. i have a 97 rs and i was thinking about putting a gsr or type r head on it. did little research on how to do it and misc. parts i would need. my question is: is it worth it, i talked quite to few people and they said its not worth cause its a frank motor and it would break soon. so i just wanted to see what you guys have to say.
thanks
thanks
it only breaks if you torture it. or dont take care, tune, treat... blah blah it right.
alot of poeple talk out of their ***, mainly people at shops.
but like shutupnskate said, invest in a turbo. vtec is cool... but boost is better.

LS/Vtec hype is getting old. and by hype i mean the dont do it hype....
There are plenty of "Frank Motors" out there that are outlasting and outperforming type R's and many other built factory motors...
And as far as boosting, if you got limited money, yes then boost.. but if you want to go all out, go LS/Vtec boosted, if you do it right it'll last you as long as a D15 would

if you are going with ls/vtec, make sure you build it right, no mickey mouse jobs or cuttting corners, if you want it to last.
for me im saving up for turbo or a complete swap because i dont know how much my 194k mile engine will last if i go ls/vtec on my 98 integra.

yea i spent alot of money doing all motor (b20-vtec) and i 230 to the wheels then did stock gsr with boost and made 250 at 6psi

boost is cheap horse power for pussies
if you have ***** build a motor yourself, so what if youre not the fastest out there, atleast you have the knowledge and achievement of tearing a motor apart and putting it back together yourself rather than bolthing a manifold and a few tubes on and tuning it
LSvtec motors are only as reliable as you build them, they have the potential to make great power, but you correctly build it with ARP rod bolts, shot-peened rods, brand new bearings, new piston rings, and fresh hone, and make sure everything is to spec
i built my lsvtec motor and spun it to 9k easily with all new parts and everything to spec, no problems at all

I agree that you will get out of a motor what you put into it through time and money.
But most people I know down have the time or money to put many thousands of dollars into a 4 cylinder motor that will only end up giving them back around 250 hp if you are lucky. (If you're gonna spend that kind of time and money, build a smallblock stroker or something)
Spending $1500 and a couple days installing and tuning a turbo kit is much more appealing to me.
(Also i realize that my numbers are off, IE thousands of $ going all motor and hp achieved with all motor, but I think I got my point across regardless)

in response to the original ?
i have daily driven my ls-vtec for about 3.5 yrs now (thats a little less than 40,000 miles), i have taken it to the drag strip, twisty mountain roads, and whatever else and it has never given me any problems
now the ? or turbo or all motor -- your gonna get pros and cons for each, figure out what you want

turbo is the best option for any 4 cylinder car. if you want all motor power. then get a v8.
dont waste your money going all motor.
you work for your money. so get the most out of it.

hiding behind a turbo...hahaha go all-motor man, that's the only way you'll do it, if you do it right im not going to be surprised if you beat a stock ls with turbo...
all this hype about turbos, just because it forces air in the motor, and it goes vroooom pssshh wow....that's fun....nah just go all-motor little by little your going to love how it feels with every mod youll put in little by little, its fun just thinking about what next to put on your car...
turbo, turbo, turbo...take it out and lets see whos really faster

you must have never driven a turbo car. go drive one, then angels will sing and bells will be chiming and you will see the light.
as far as the sound of turbo vs. N/A, I'd much rather have a car that goes PSSHH between shifts than one that gets louder as RPMs increases

FYI your honda has a I-4 not a V-4 that is a motorcycle engine. And also FYI any Civic/ Integra will need thousands of dollars into it just to keep up with a stock V8 Camaro/ Mustang.
Got any more nonsense for me to debunk?
