Default dyno tuning advice needed

well i figured this would be a good informational topic since all of the free tuning software is out there for everyone to use. it would be nice if we could all get some info on the steps to tuning our rides and making the money spent on the dyno worth it. my plan is to start on the street with a conservative base map get the AF ratio dialed in then take it on the dyno to dial in timing, but how do we go about that? do we add a degree to the whole map then run it on the dyno again to see where we gained and or lost? or do we do a colum at a time (seems to time consuming). i know you should advance timing until you stop seeing large gains then back it out a degree or two for safety. i have tuned on the street before but only AF, but on my current project im going to get it on a dyno and mess with timing. any help would be appreciated
