Well I'm gonna install my clutch and flywheel.....
I was gonna get it done under warranty, since the stock clutch is starting to go...
But I honestly don't trust any dealer's with my car - and I always like to tq things to spec...
Any tips for me, since I've never done one on an itr before?
Do I need a clutch centering tool?
Any recommendations? I was thinking of dropping the tranny without draining the fluid too..... Err... I can't can I, b/c of the pulling of the axle...
Will this be a good time to put the ES motor mount inserts in too?
Wish me luck everyone!

make sure you have 2 jacks and at least 1 friend, the tranny is heavy. my friend and i used a jack to help lower and raise the tranny. the other jack goes under the motor to hold it up, since you'll be removing the rear and passenger side mounts. good time to install ES ones, yeah.
stock clutch? others should come with a centering tool.. although it isn't absolutely necessary, just makes it easier.

Good luck because it's a bitch. What do you have to separate the lower ball joints? I didn't have a ball joint removal tool so I ended up busting the boots with a big *** fork. Don't forget you need something to stop the flywheel from turning when you loosen the flywheel bolts. You can make something that will work. Also flywheel bolts have 12 point heads. Clutch center tool will make things easier. That's all I can remember for now. Good luck

1/2 inch drive brakerbar for the ball joints and thick flatblade screwdriver to hold the flywheel
to your mouth.
Thanks adam,
Sorry I should've mentioned that I'm installing the toda clutch and flywheel in this pic:

No, it didn't come with a centering tool..... But yes, I've dropped the tranny before (when I installed the final drive) and am intimately familiar with the process.

Hey post pics and details when you finished the project. I'm thinking of doing my own clutch change and installation later on this summer. Any help would be great. Thanks.

32mm socket for the hub nut, and a 12" extension for the lower starter bolt. Unless sombody knows a quicker way to remove it.
can I ask how many kilometers you have on your car now that ur clutch is needing replacement
I've got 12k miles on the car currently. I dunno how many km that is.....
But yes, the stocker has pretty much given up the ghost... Although I don't think it was made to take all the power my mods have thrown at it...

Good thing, cause as D would say: "it's a wear item."
And yes fellas, I've got a neat little trick to removing the lower ball joints...
Involves one of those weirdo forks - no boot damage =

I thought you had ~25,000mi on your car...

Its so much fun that I'll be doing mine, again (5th time dropping tranny), next weekend...
Few hints:
- Make sure you have a 2x4 and a saw to cut up pieces to use to drive the axels out of the tranny.
- Don't remove the shift linkage at the tranny, just leave it hanging (see pic below)
- To remove the ball joints:
1) Place the hack on the rotor hub and jack up
2) place the end of a 1/2" breaker bar or ratchet between the lca and the hub/spindel. It will wedge right in there where the ball joint is. (see pic below)
3) drop the the jack.
4) drink some beer
- Find some one that has a clutch alignment tool, or take your time when putting the pressure plate and clutch on.
- Put high temp grease on the shaft so the throw out bearing moves smoothly
- Have a friend, that tranny is heavy.
- Pick up 3 more of thouse bolts that hold the pressure plate to the flywheel, as you will need them (stock has 9, toda needs 12, or some combination like that)
See how we left the linkage on
Place end of wrench where the white circle is:

Oh yea, don't forget to drain the tranny, or when you pull the axles you'll get a face full of fluid.
Also leave the axles in the hubs, since the lca is off (also remove the suspention fork that attaches fromt he shock to the lca), this will allow you to pull the axles out fo the tranny. Then just tie them up and out of the way.

i have never dropped a tranny before, but how high do you need the car lifted to do this?
Most decent floor jacks should get it high enough.....
