Default another clutch post

Ok, so i've searched and read a whole lot of posts about clutch problems and I just wanna double check everything before i start buyin parts.

i have a 96 accord and the other day i noticed a lot of play in the clutch pedal. (i didnt feel any pressure on the pedal until about an inch before it hits the floor)

my friend told me its the master cylinder, but someone else suggested that its the slave cylinder.

i can see where the fluid leaked under the dash (by the pedals above the carpet) so i know that something is shot.

if it is just the cmc, can i just buy that, or will i also need gaskets or nething else. also, about how long of a job is this and does anyone know where to find a good write-up of it?

i found one link in another thread, but the link kept timing out everytime i tried it.

thanks

well, if you are buying the master cylinder, you should buy the slave one as well (...that's always recommended.... i don't know why..)
I believe there are no gaskets, it bolts right one, no glue or anything..... just bolts and such.

Never heard of this myself but it could be true?

Generally the new clutch slave and master will just be a bolt on thing. However make sure to take your time and bleed that clutch.

just to clarify... are you saying that from what ive told you, it is in fact the master cylinder, but replacing the slave cylinder in addition to it is a good idea anyway? or could it be either cylinder, which is why replacing both is a good idea...

no, its only leaking from the clutch master cylinder most likely...

but its a good idea to replace both, but i dont see it necessary to replace the slave cylinder...

Change the Clutch MC. The Slave is on the tranny, not worth changing if it's not leaking, unless you have the spare cash and wanna fork it over. They do where out themselves, and will eventually need to be replaced. Afterwards, simply bleed the clutch using some nice DOT 3 fluid. Just be careful to it doesn't go everywhere, stuff eats the paint.

yup, since you said its leaking right above the pedal, its the clutch master......

its not a hard job to do, no gaskets, just the part, and gotta bleed the clutch after, its just a tight space to work in, thats all

a lot of ppl say to get both done, just because now that your at it, might as well do it, especially at a shop, cuz they shoudlnt charge you tooo much more to do it

i had this same problem a whiel back, only changed the master, not the slave....everythign is runnin good still
