Can a block extension be removed?
I have a chance to get a B18 block with Darton sleeves and a 3/4" aluminum deck extension. I dont really want the extension because I already have money in some stock length rods.
Can the extension be removed and the sleeves just be milled down level to the original block height?

Wow, i had no idea that you could do that! I take it that you have some better torque with the longer stroke? how much does it cost to do someting like that and are there clearance issues under the hood at all?
lol nice block....jsut get the rods made....as far as milling it down to regular block height i think it would turn into a mess and is just not worth the aggravation...personally i never seen anyone do that before but the block looks good...just wait until you get the money to finish it right......youll be happy in the end but it sucks you have to wait to assemble your block.

8200 dollars until the shell is ready to be reassembled. all the parts are sitting in the garage
Anybody want to buy my GSR Block and Eagle rods - please finance this new toy.
The block just has some wear on it, needs to go to 81.5mm, and has been clearanced for LS crank. I also have a freshly micropolished GSR crank, and 81mm CP Pistons.

I have no deck left on my block, I have never seen this before and I asked myself if this was possible.... how much do they charge to install this deck extension? My pistons are .016 out of the deck now
And i would hate to trash a sleeved block cause it cant be surfaced anymore.

i thought it was an ls block with a deckplate, not a gsr. bleh.
i just want the ability to run a big big big bore and a stupid long stroke

I dont think that would work for you, if you look closely at the pic you will notice the sleeves actually come up through the deck and are level with the top of the deck - so the deck does not sit on top of the sleeves, it sits around them.
The sleeve has to come all the way up to the block to be able to seal in that high pressure that we hope to maintain - otherwise this thing would have 2 head gaskets to blow
I am not sure about the price, i would imagine its somewhere around $500-1000 - call Benson Machine - he does it.

Yea i was planning on getting new sleeves, I am only an 81.5mm anyways...main reason is I would hate to scrap the block cause my current block cant be surfaced anymore, so a deck extension would be awesome, do an 84 or 85mm this time
