Default '94 Prelude VTEC: Rev Limiter Engaging @ 6500 RPM

The engine shouldn't be cutting off until about 7600 RPMs. As far as I can remember, the problem begun within the past 3-4 weeks.

- VTEC is still engaging.
- Oil level is good.
- Changed the oil pressure switch, reset the computer. No dice.
- Replaced all the major seals a couple weeks ago, so I doubt it's a bad seal somewhere causing me to lose oil pressure.
- Swapped the distributer with one from another car. No dice.
- I think it's likely some electrical issue somewhere. My friend who runs a shop said he's been working with another car that is dealing with the same issue, but he hasn't pinpointed the problem(s) yet.

Anyone deal with something similar and can offer some insight? Thanks a bunch.

Did it start after swapping the seals? Did you disconnect or maybe hit some wiring then? Any codes? Are you sure VTEC is engaging though? I thought the same thing when this happened to me (was a bad connection from ECU to VTEC solenoid) but it wasn't. Typically it won't engage when the ECU limits the revs...

You're right, it's most likely a wiring issue (I'd say 9 out of 10 times).

A search for "rev limiter" didn't bring up anything useful, unfortunately.

I'm sure VTEC is coming on because it kicks and the engine tone changes at around 5200-5500.

My buddy said no code is showing up. He's currently in the process of doing some electrical research for the H22.

Speedometer is fine. I can't hit 90MPH in 3rd gear though cuz of the rev limiter... I normally could. No constant CEL, although it did come on once when I downshifted from 4th to 3rd while on the freeway and the rev lmiter engaged. The CEL went off when I restarted the car. Hasn't come on since.

I dont know what that could be. When my vss went bad my car ran like crap and there was a rev limiter at 6500. Well I hope you get it fixed.

I am having the same problem too. I have a h22 swap in a 94 hatch. I had recentlypopped a valve and put the head back on when it just started doing this. Vtec engages and screams up to 6500 then rev limiter kicks in. I even have a chipped ecu which set the limiter to 9200 rpms which worked fine up until i put the head back on from the valve. So im sure it has something to do witha sensor. I even swapped ecus and it still does it. Any help would be appreciated also
