Default What problems have you had with your rear differintial and drive shaft.

I am wanting to buy a 00-01 S2k, but I have heard of people having to replace there rear ends after having the car for a few years. Like the housing and driveshaft and such. Is this from poor driving skills when racing, dropping the clutch at too high of RPM's, or is it that if the S2k is raced this happens no matter what because of poor manufacturing from Honda. Have you guys had problems with your rear ends, and how much did it cost to fix.

I have not had any problems with mine. You shouldn't have any problems if you keep up with the maintenance. Every 15k miles you want to have you're rear diff serviced and I recomend using Valvoline 80-90 full synthetic. Works well. Good luck to you.

No problems so far, as much as I beat it on R-comps. No flakes in the fluid, no weird noises.

2005 AP2, full Royal Purple fluidity.

the rear ends arnt to weak, but they arnt the strongest either. i think you should know if you plan on racing your car every week end or any extensive racing the rear end will go out. im sure you have read it a hundred times, the s2000 is not a drag race car. if you do race it then it will break as with anything on any car. and the rear ends arnt to cheap but not overly expensive. if you drive the car as intended by honda with no 8500 launchs then you should be good. as i read somewhere else on here (or s2ki) take everything anyone on a chat board says with a grain of salt because if in fact something does mess up telling honda "the guys on Honda Tech said it would be okay" probley wont be the best thing to do.

I would take care of it and keep the oil changed, and I would definately NOT drop the clutch at anything higher than like 4000 rpms. I would only be draging it a few times on the weekends.

From what I've read around you dont want to drop the clutch unless your ABOVE 6,000 RPM. The reason being I dont know but everyone on s2ki (thats alot of everyones) that has commented on this has agreed that low rpm clutch drops put more strain on the diff than high rpm. But like Hondageek said take everything on the internet with a grain of salt.

I developed a crack in the diff carrier on my AP1 but I beat the crap out of it. Many, many trips to the strip. Much, much hard street driving. To be honest I was impressed at how well the car held up to all the abuse.

Phil if your on here and you read this, I'm sorry you had to read this about your new car.

you have to spin a little. the closed differential will develop cracks if put under to much stress. spinning even half a tire will take some of the shock. launching at 4 will make you bog (or my car does but i bought it used with ACT clutch and Comptech lightweight flywheel) i heard somewhere quickly slipping the clutch at 6,100 is proper launching, but then again....with a grain of salt.

everybody has a different opinion about what rpm, but definately preload. since im a dily driver and i dont want to replace parts every 1k miles i dont launch very often, plus around me theres too many cops hiding where i normally drive so i would just be launching at a light hitting 45-50mph then cruising with all the traffic that just caught up to me...a little silly and waste of life expecantcy.
