Default I know how much you hate these but.......help!

Im going to be mildly building my B17 and am currently gathering parts for the build. Current parts I already have are P30 (OS) pistons and ITR head with portflow inners. Im going to be going with the Rage or the Vibrant 421 header, Hookups ported ITR manifold and my TB maxbored to ITR specs. However, I'm having trouble deciding what cam to go with (you see where this is going). The P30's with 2 layer OEM gasket will bring me up to 11.3 for compression. I'm looking at 3 different cams but am not sure which will get me the results I am looking for (185-190 whp). Crome will be used for tuning. Cams Im currently looking at are Blox B, BC3+ and BC4. Will I see good results with a "stage 2" cam like BC4 and Blox B with my compression or should I stick to a stage 1 cam like the BC3+? Any clearance issues with any of these cams?

PS: Sorry for another "which cam" thread but any help would be awesome and greatly appreciated

Where do you want the majority of your power to be had at? What is the car going to be used for and how high do you want to rev?

Car will be daily driven. I would like decent mid range and highend power as well. Best of both worlds I guess. I'd like a cam that would work well with my other mods. As far as rev limit, I'll rev as high as the cam makes power. I will be using ARP rod bolts. Realistacally though I dont want to rev past 9000

I'd say the BC3+s. every graph I've seen they dominate up to at least 7000. I think the pro 1s might be overcamming it IMO, plus from what I hear they are very hard to get to idle properly.

If you know what you're doing, the Pro1's aren't hard to get them to idle. And with a ported IM with a Rage header, I don't see how the Pro1 is overcamming...the thing is gonna breath pretty easily. If he wanted to rewv past 9k I would suggest a diff cam, but the Pro1 would fit him very well from what he's describing. Better than the S2S2/Blox B.

I was under the impression that those cams (pro 1s) liked compression higher than what he's going to be running, if I'm wrong, then yeah the pro 1s get my vote for best overall powerband like the OP wants.

If this guy can do Pro2's on a stockish block( https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1654882 ) I don't think he'll have any problems with the Pro1's.

wow. Pro 1 huh? I didn't think I'd be a ble to go with that big of a cam! So I guess with my mods I can go with something bigger than a Stage 1 cam. Great info. Will the Type R outer/ Portflow inner hold up to say a BC4 or Blox B?

Can you tell me some of the tricks involved to get these cams to idle? My buddy is running these and he can't get them to idle under 1200 rpm. I personally think they are a BITCH to idle..but I'm no pro..

he's talking pure ****, dawg. everyone who says pro 1's are easy to tune at idle has never fucked with the ecu maps. the majority of people have problems tuning p1's at idle. even some good tuners have admitted this. everybody i know is sitting in the 1100-1200rpm range at idle.

Will I have to worry about clearance for any of these cams? I'm not too familiar with this issue. I honestly don't know what causes clearnace issues and when to take it into consideration when planning on a motor build. When should clearance be considered? When compression is high? When a head is milled? when using thin headgasket? Big domed pistons? Is it the cam that plays a major part in clearance? Since I dont want to get too crazy with my cam choice and dont want to deal with idle problems, Im leaning toward the Blox B. You think this will cause clearnce problems with my setup? Thanks to everyone for their feedback. It is really appreciated
