Video camera's ???? I know some of you guys out there use them!!
What's good for around $1500???
--Karl, who would rather spend that money on tires, but would love to see what a 1500 camera looks like...
That's great if you're making your own independent movie, but overkill for in-car footage. You also want in-car projectiles to be as small as possible.
I'd just get a cheap Hi8 cam and/or a color lipstick camera.

A word to the wise. I just now gave up trying to get mine tight again - the rattling in my bucket o' bolts has rattled the door mechanism horribly loose. I would think twice about spending megabucks on a camera that will ride in a full on track car - a street car maybe but the abuse of high spring rates and such has really beaten the crap out of my Sony Camcorder.
Obviously YMMV

I have a panasonic dv 951 and it is a rock solid awesome camera. It takes great video, takes good digital stills holds 80 pics on a 64 meg card. I have used this camera for autox in car and it works well. I am currently looking for a ball head or pan head to use? any recomandationd for one?
Not sure if this helps, but Bogen/Manfrotto sells a bunch of that sort of stuff.

What are you planning on putting this head on?

I have aluminum tubing between the head rests, they are attached with Ubolts and wing nuts, solid and it installs in about five minutes. I had anouther Ubolt in the center attached to a tripod but I want a better setup. I know bogen is a good brand, I was looking for pan Vs ball mount stories to help me decide.

I just read a comparison (that included the Cannon GL1) in the April issue of PC Magazine. They liked both the Panasonic PV-DV701 and the Sony DCR-VX2000.

Yea, I like the sony too, and I won't buy a panasonic camcorder. (dunno why)
But, the Canon is the least expensive 3ccd chip camera around. ($1200) And after talking with a videographer from TLC a few months back, I was sold. After all, he uses it for his production work, and if it's good enough to broadcast, it's good enough for me to do some amature work with.
I'm not real worried about the camera and vibration, that's what the lipstick camera is for. The camcorder is just to record sound and video from the other lens. And of course I'll use the camera off the track too.

I have the Panasonic DV-701. It is fantastic. Small, lightweight, digital.

I am mostly interested in the "Cone camera". That would be a great camera to stick in my front grill.
Then I could run the video wire to the camcorder, then have a microphone in the engine bay and run that to my camcorder as well.
that would sound badass.
drive safe,
