Dealer says I need 4 new struts
Says its going to be like 1.2k for all four. Instead of putting in a standard part should I or is it possible to put in an aftermarket? I'm new to dealing with the mechanical aspect of cars and I'm still learning thats why Im on these boards.
$1,200 for 4 struts?!!?!??!???!! hahahahahahahahahhahah, i really hope honda isn't serious!!!!!!
yea man, you can get 4 aftermarket struts anywhere from $250-600, and depending on your hands-on-ability, they aren't THAT hard to install

Holy crap yes.... do not use the dealer. I'm sure you could get some KYB GR2s as an OEM replacement for 2-300$, then you can put them on yourself or pay someone a 1-200 to install them...
holy crap! 1200$ for oem!!?!?!?!

KYB GR-2's sell for about $250 for all 4. Installation would be another $250 at a local suspension/brakes shop, but it's not hard to do on your own. Try and find a friend who's done it before to help you

^^Don't even worry about getting back up, might as well wait until they're done installing for the labor price round..
You could get a extremely nice suspension setup for 1.2k, unless you just want OEM type struts go with what these guy sugguest, otherwise look around on the boards and see what you'd like to have that's a little better..

Bounce test.
Press down on each corner of the car and let go. If a corner bounces more then once or if when you hit a bump on the freeway the car feels like it's gonna fly away, you need new struts. Otherwise, save your money for some nice aftermarket ones.

heh, i have KYB AGXs sitting in my room. will be installing them this weekend. they cost me 300$ shipped. didnt even need the bounce test to know mine were blown... my car was sitting all lopsided... ended up eatin thru my tires too..
anyways.. do not pay 1200$.. tho that sounds about right for the dealership.. there are plenty of alternatives. let us know if you want a performance upgrade or just an oem replacement
