a lil OT: who else debates getting out of the "new school" import scene.
as the topic states....
for example, i go to some of the "import" shows, and frankly im embarrased at times to be involved with the type of people that show up. People with no regard to safety; such as drag racing in the pits, etc.
And the constant revving at stoplights etc, when im just trying to enjoy a nice drive on the weekend, or trying to make it to work in my "performance" oriented vehicle. Sure its loud, but im not asking for a race by just driving it calmly around town.
i often debate selling out of the whole scene, and getting a "true" import that will garner some respect such as an MG-A, old school Bimmer, etc.
just wondering if others feel the same.

Yup, realized that long time ago, hance the '01 bimmer and not the '01 ITR that I left the deposit on at the time.
And I decided to forgo all HINs, Import drag events, street races and meets, even though many of my friends are still into it.
-Kamil, who's rackin up the posts today.

I know what your saying, but **** em. I too sometimes get embarrassed by these slow, R stickered, clear tailed, fire extinguisher on the piller mother-fockers but somehow I don't let them ruined the driving pleasure I experience in my car.
I don't deal with the scene at all.. .Just ignore them and go on my way. This is one of the main reasons I removed my fin and stickers.

I have not been to a "import" shop in years. All the import shops promote rice and theft. I wish it was like it was in the early 90's when a tuned Honda was rare. Way too many stupid arshes in this world. Just last week I caught a bunch of 'hoodlums" jacking my front emblem, and leaving a nice scratch in the process!
just go to tracks/autoXes where the driving is the reason your there and the cars are genuinely cool, not rolling APC catalogs built to impress some judge. Shows are weak.

Screw 'em. I'm not selling my R just because a hermaphrodite in a CX hatch with a fart can and clear tails disgraces the Honda name. So be it. I'm the guy that was driving, stock appearing 14 second hybrids, 5 years ago when most ricers were still playing with dolls.
Not only am I on my second ITR, but I've owned half or dozen or so hybrids that all kicked major **** on the street. Many V8 powered cars were humiliated in my hybrid days. And no, I didnt start off in imports. Cuz I own a 12 second 5.0 Stang to this day. I'm a car guy, nothing more nothing less. I refused to be pigeonholed into the gay "import scene". My next car will be an E46 M3.

Well after I started meeting friends who were "true school" import enthuisiasts and auto-x/road racers, I slowly but surely began to renounce the "new school" import scene. These people know who they are!
Honda-Tech has had alot to do with my transformation.
Although I had never been into bodykits, stickers, and all the other bullchit parts I was from a "car crew" and I had attended and entered a few shows. But when my ITR was stolen I saw the "new school" import scene for what it was:NOTHING! I realized that street racing, chit talking, "hating", and showing off was not for me and prolly led to my ITR's demise.
I have since gotten out of that car crew and trying to stay away from all the negativity. You can kind of say I'm down with the "import righteous". I even thought about getting out out of the import scene altogether until convinced otherwise
Getting behind the wheel of an ITR on a road course will do that to you!

Here's my take on the situation...
I agree with the embarrasment part. I go to an occasional local show just to hang out and for the amusement. I will only go if I have nothing better to do. The last show I went to I had a bunch of Mong kids asking if I would race for slips... They were relentless and got pissed off when I told them that I didn't want to "win" their car.
Regardless of how anyone feels about the "new school", we have all benefited. The industry, both show and go, has grown leaps and bounds over the past 5 years. The people you speak of have driven a lot of that growth. I've even seen a few events pop up that try to attract some of these people into the performance side. At a regional road racing event they have a car show where you get to lap Road America during the lunch break and the corner workers vote for the best cars. Finally, you know some of these people will eventually "see the light" and become more interested in performance... and then they will come to Honda-Tech... and then they will get owned by all of the Arrrrs... then they will buy an Arrrr and we will all be friends.
I was considering getting out of the import scene this winter when every single one of my cars had turned into the project from hell. Luckily our first solo II event was this weekend and now I'm hooked again.

I agree, there definitely is many KNUCKLEHEAD/RICERS out there. Unfortunately, they give us "true" important enthusiasts a bad name. But seeing a really sweet hatch, or civic/CRX, or ITR/GSR is a beautiful thing IMO. Don't let the many, many ricers and POSER/CLOWNS change your mind about YOUR ride..
my only problem with the import seen now is ignorance. Ignorant ricers doin stupid **** (street racing, revvin, whatever), and the even more ignorant public. I honestly hate it when I tell someone I have an Integra, and they automatically group me with the lowridin underbody light crowd. Its one of the reasons i removed my wing, to be more low key (and look a lot sleeker too...).
Now i'm not saying every person i meet calls me a ricer cause i drive my car. At autocrosses, track events, etc, IE real enthusiast stuff, I have people that genuinely respect my car for what it is, a true performance vehicle.
but like someone said
**** the ricers, we'll do our own thing. I guess i'll be associated with the "import scene" until my Type R ceases to be fun, which is no where near happening.

All the reason for me not to go to shows, events, etc.
Surprisingly, I saw a clean '99/'00 blue Si up here in WI on the freeway. Gave him a
and he did the same..... no attempt to race or anything.
to those to respect each others imports and keep racing on the track.
My next car is a very mildly modded early NSX, S4 or '91-'93 M5. This 'scene' is getting sickening at times.

your dreaming if you think your in an elite company driving an hpde that there are no "ricers". they are coming, join me at VIR one time and see.
thing is, i like driving on the street not getting harrased. i wont put my car that i love driving in cold storage, and baby it to and from the track only like so many type r owners do.

A E28 ///M5 (one owner 50K) was my first choice for a "new-job" car. But that was not to be.

My car is probably the equivalent of the alpha-male in the import scene (big wing, tinted, big stereo, lowered, bling bling rims etc) - and yet I do not go to any import stuff except our local Type R club. Does it bother me? No, not at all. Do I get mad or upset when other people notice my car/rev at me? No, not at all. Do I get "embarrassed" by driving my car or hanging out with younger people that have similar cars? no. Do I try and set a good example? Most of the time
What Ausmith said is so very true. As for the everyday "encounters" with the RICER/CLOWNS that watched the F@F one too many times, just continue to do what you've done till now, ignore and chuckle inside..
The fact that there are so many kids out there with bad manners and worse taste is an annoyance to me, but I simply enjoy my car too much to drive something else (something else that fits my budget and is suitable for guitar-hauling duties that is).
I've always thought the "import scene" was a joke. Like a parody of some lame high-school clique writ large. It would please me to see it go away.

I've decided to boycott IDRC and NIRA events from now on. For two years running the import events have been poorly ran and there's been incidents of violence at the track ncluding one shooting and one stabbing.
The events seem to be ran in a "make up the rules as you go" method. When we got there last year, the IDRC said we could use our track registered numbers instead of IDRC car numbers. Once I got up the the line though, they threw a fit and made me go back to my pit to apply thier numbers because they decided (after telling everyone one thing) to change thier mind.
Run groups went extremely slow. We started racing at 8am and by 2pm I still had only made one pass.

I drive my "import" on the weekend for fun. Take it to an event here and there. That`s it. I`m very happy in a lifted f150 everyday. I don`t feel very "cool" in a Civic anymore. It`s just a weekend thing now, but a fun hobby.
